Meet Orng, a 62-year-old woman from Cambodia. Our medial partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) tells us, “Orng is married with three sons, three daughters and nine grandchildren. Orng likes to listen to the monks pray.”
Orng has mature cataracts in both of her eyes. A cataract occurs when the lens of the eye becomes clouded as it ages. Orng’s cataracts have caused her to lose some of the vision in her eyes.
CSC explains, “Orng has difficulty getting around by herself and can’t do her work at the farm very well because of the cataracts in her eyes. She spends her days struggling to do any work and then has to be very careful going home in the afternoons when the sun is going down.”
For $225, Orng’s clouded lens will be removed and replaced with a clear lens implant. After surgery, Orng will have clear vision.
“Orng looks forward to going to work on the farm, going to the pagoda to meet her friends, and taking care of her grandchildren more often,” CSC adds.
