Chantha is a 56-year-old rice and vegetable farmer from Cambodia. She has one brother and four sisters, and currently lives with her younger sister. In her free time, Chantha enjoys cooking, taking care of her nephews, and watching TV.
In January 2020, Chantha was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a closed fracture of her left tibia. After the accident, she went to a government hospital where a nail was put in her tibia to heal the fracture. Now, the bone has healed and she would like the nail to be removed to avoid future complications such as pain and infection.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. On November 26th, Chantha will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $230. This procedure will be remove the hardware and allow her to be completed healed from her accident.
Chantha shared, “I hope the wound will heal quickly so I can return to work.”

Chantha underwent a fracture hardware removal surgery.
Chantha traveled to Watsi’s medical partner CSC where orthopedic surgeons removed the nail hardware from her tibia. After the bone had healed, it’s important to remove hardware to avoid future complications. She was so relieved, as the hardware, although it helped to heal her bones, continued to give her some pain, and she did not have full function of her leg. She is feeling anxious now to return to her work as a rice and vegetable farmer.
“I hope I can walk normally, possibly sitting, standing, climbing stairs. I’ll be available to help cooking, bathing, and take care of my family.”
