Hadija is a bright 12-year-old girl from Tanzania. She is in Standard Four and loves science, reading storybooks, drawing, knitting, and taking long walks in her neighborhood. Hadija is the third child in a family of six children, raised by her mother and father, who work hard to provide for the family.
Hadija was diagnosed with genu varus. her left leg bows outward at the knee. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards, making it difficult to walk and may cause long-term joint damage. Hadija’s leg continued to worsen, and her once-active childhood became increasingly affected. Playing with friends, walking to school, and even standing for long periods became painful and tiring. Hadija dreams of becoming a singer one day. She believes that healing her leg will allow her to walk with confidence, stay in school, and pursue the future she imagines.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $695 to fund treatment for Hadija. The procedure is scheduled to take place on December 17th at our medical partner’s care center, Kafika House. Treatment will hopefully restore Hadija’s mobility, allow her to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications.
Hadija’s mother says, “It is sad seeing her doubt whether she will be able to achieve her dreams because of her legs.”
