Solida is ten years old and in the fourth grade. She lives with her parents and her two older sisters. Solida likes to draw pictures and watch TV in her free time.
When she was four, Solida developed an ear infection in her right ear that caused ear discharge, tinnitus (ringing or buzzing in the ear), and hearing loss. Her mother gave her Khmer traditional medicine for treatment, but her symptoms did not improve.
Solida’s symptoms have never improved. Recently, an organization referred her to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), for treatment. She traveled for ninety minutes with her mother by motorbike to reach CSC.
Her treatment is scheduled for February 13. Surgeons will perform a myringoplasty surgery in her right ear to repair the perforated tympanic membrane and stop the discharge and pain. However, her family cannot afford this procedure, so CSC is requesting $423. Over time, Solida’s hearing will improve. Her mother hopes that she will have good hearing.
