Srorn is a 63-year-old woman who enjoys visiting the pagoda and listening to the monks pray. Three months ago, she developed a cataract in each eye, severely impairing her ability to venture outdoors and visit her favorite places.
Srorn’s condition now causes her blurred vision and light sensitivity. She is afraid of sunshine as the light has become very jarring. She can no longer see clearly, do work well, or get around outside on her own. So, she traveled three hours with her niece to reach Watsi’s medical partner, Children’s Surgical Center, for treatment.
To clear the cataracts, Srorn must undergo a phacoemulsification procedure and have IOL implants in each eye. The $225 procedure will remove the abnormal lens proteins to allow insertion of an intraocular lens implant.
With our help, Srorn shares, “I hope I can see clearly again, so I can take care of the gardens around my home and walk around easily.” After both cataracts are removed, Srorn will be able to see clearly again.

Srorn had the cataract in her right eye successfully removed in a short surgery, during which her clouded lens was taken out and replaced with a clear, artificial implant. The procedure went very well and she is already seeing everything clearer than before. Srorn is very happy to have her vision restored, and is thankful to all the doctors and donors who helped her have this surgery.
Though she was scheduled to have cataracts removed from both eyes, she has yet to return to receive the second surgery.
Because coming to the clinic requires taking a day off from work and usually a family escort, it can often take patients some time to return for follow-up care. Having a second surgery is also a lower priority since Srorn left the clinic with clear vision in one eye, allowing her to live with more ease. When Srorn can return, the surgery to remove the other cataract will be free.
