“Twelve-year-old Everlyne has spent more time in the hospital than in school,” says our medical partner African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). A high achieving student from Kenya who aspires to become a doctor, “Everlyne was perfect in everything she did at home, school, and church,” her mother tells us.
Three years ago, Everlyne began experiencing severe headaches. At first they were on and off, but they gradually got worse and doctors were unable to treat her symptoms.
Even after shunt drainage surgeries and various drug treatments, the pain and drowsiness continued. Doctors previously diagnosed Everlyne with a range of conditions including typhoid, malaria, and upper airway blockage, but her most recent brain scan finally revealed the source of her symptoms: a brain tumor.
Her condition has gotten worse, and Everlyne can no longer eat nor walk. She has been hospitalized for the last ten months, and “is at risk of becoming visually impaired and dehydrated due to the recurrent vomiting,” says AMHF. “More importantly, the pressure building up in her head may lead to unconsciousness and probably death.” Everlyne needs a craniotomy to relieve this pressure and save her life.
Everlyne is the second of five children. Her single mother sells groceries to sustain her family, but having already spent so much money on Everlyne’s previous medical care, she cannot afford the craniotomy her daughter needs.
$1260 will fund Everlyne’s operation. This surgery will save her life.
Everlyne’s mother is hopeful for her daughter’s operation. “She was a leader in every field and as of now, I will give anything to see her health restored,” her mother shares. “I long to see the Everlyne I have known for 11 years. Please help restore my daughter’s health once again.”
