Phathana is a 14-year-old student from Cambodia. He is the only child in his family and lives with his parents, who are rice farmers, in Takeo province. He is currently in grade 10, and his favorite subjects are Khmer and Math. At home, he enjoys eating rice with fried vegetables and playing soccer with his friends.
For the past few years, Phathana has been experiencing difficulty breathing and a runny nose that has gotten worse over time, along with headaches and dizziness. He often feels poorly in class, which makes it hard to focus on his subjects. Phathana was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $265 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Phathana, which is scheduled to take place on April 22nd. Surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Phathana of his symptoms and helping him live much more comfortably.
Phathana says, “I hope that my nose will not be runny anymore after my operation. I want to study well and finish school.”
