Mulu is a 70-year-old elderly widow from Ethiopia, having spent her life as a devoted house maker before her husband’s passing. from Ethiopia. Presently, she relies on her late husband’s pension payments for support.
Mulu shared that the pain has been with her for far too long. It began when her right eye started experiencing itchiness and a sense of numbness. She the noticed cloudiness in the eye, before she started losing vision. Upon examination at the hospital, Mulu was diagnosed with a cataract, which is a clouding of the lens of the eye, blurring vision. Due to loss of vision in her right eye, daily household tasks such as cooking over a wood fire have become challenging. She also now fears venturing out at night, her unsteady gait and compromised sight making her feel vulnerable and insecure.
Fortunately, Mulu is scheduled to undergo cataract surgery at our medical partner’s care center, Saglan Wajee General Hospital. Surgeons will replace the blurred lens, so she can be able to see clearly. Now, Mulu needs help to fund this $150 procedure.
Mulu says: “May I soon be blessed with the ability to see again and walk with renewed freedom.”
