Beatrice is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is the fourth of eleven children in her family, with five brothers who are all currently studying. One of her six sisters works with good company, while the others are still pursuing their education. Beatrice completed her senior four education but unfortunately had to drop out due to a lack of school fees. She lives with her parents, sustaining herself through small-scale farming. She presented with neck swelling, which she has had for the past ten years. Beatrice began to experience troubling symptoms, including shortness of breath, paralysis of her neck, pain while swallowing, and heart palpitations. Previously she had sought medical attention at Kisiizi Hospital, where they recommended surgery. However, due to financial constraints, she was unable to proceed with the operation. Having been diagnosed with an euthyriod goiter, Beatrice needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Beatrice receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on July 4th at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $252, and she and her family need help raising money. Beatrice says, “I hope to be fully healed once I'm operated on so that I may get relieved from the symptoms I have. I am hoping for a full recovery.”

Sean is a 66-year-old rice farmer from Kampong Cham province in Cambodia. She is married with one son, two daughters, and eight adorable grandchildren. Currently, Sean and her husband live with her youngest daughter, who is also a rice farmer. When Sean finishes working for the day, she enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio or going to the pagoda in her local village. Five years ago, Sean developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her to experience blurry vision, irritation, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she cannot go places alone. When Sean learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On April 24th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this procedure. Sean's family contributed $50 to her care. Sean shared, "I hope I can see well after surgery. I can go to the pagoda on my own and take care of my grandchildren well."

Deziranta is a 51-year-old mother of seven children--four sons and three daughters. All of her children are studying at school with the eldest in senior school class five and the youngest in primary class five. Deziranta had to leave school at primary class seven because she lacked money for the school fees. She earns her income from farming, and her husband works in masonry. For six years, Deziranta has been experiencing lower abdominal pain, backache, severe bleeding, and headaches. She has been diagnosed with uterine myoma, also known as uterine fibroids or leiomyomas which are non-cancerous tumors that grow in the uterus. Deziranta needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF), can help. AMHF is requesting $219 to fund Deziranta's surgery. On September 5th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at AMHF's care center. Once recovered, Deziranta will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Deziranta says, “The uterus is what has always been causing me all this pain. I hope that when it is removed, I will get well and will be able to continue with my activities around home in good health.”
