52-year-old Patricious is a mother of four children from Uganda. She works as a small-scale farmer who also practices tailoring, to supplement the little income she earns from farming. Her husband works as a local lumberman in their village. Presently, Patricious currently lives with her children, including her 27-year-old daughter, who has lived with a physical disability since birth, and requires continued care and support. Her other children are enrolled in school.
About 10 years ago, Patricious developed a swelling at the front of her neck. Initially, it was painless, so Patricious was not so worried, but over time, she began to experience troubling symptoms, including severe pain and difficulty swallowing. Visits to the local health center didn’t help much.
Recently, Patricious traveled to Rushoroza Hospital, where she was evaluated, and diagnosed with a multinodular goiter, an enlargement of the thryroid gland. Doctors at the hospital recommended that she undergo a thyroidectomy.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Patricious receive treatment. On October 15th, she is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy at Rushoroza Hospital, during which surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $333, and Patricious and her family need your help to raise the funds.
Patricious said: “I have carried many burdens, but I have never lost hope. I pray that someone will help me receive this surgery so that I can live without pain and continue caring for the children who still depend on me.”
