Oo Ler is a 42-year-old man from Burma. He lives with his three sons and daughter in a village in Karen State. He and his family are subsistence farmers who also raise animals such as pigs, chickens, and buffalo, and grow their own vegetables. His daughter is a teacher in the village. When the family needs extra money, they sell one of their buffalo to buy necessities. In his free time, Oo Ler loves to go hunting and fishing.
In September 2025, Oo Ler began to experience troubling symptoms, including severe pain in his lower right abdomen. Eating made the pain worse, and he felt fatigued. Oo Ler was diagnosed with appendicitis and needs surgery to prevent his condition from worsening.
Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is helping Oo Ler receive treatment at Mae Sariang Hospital. He will undergo an appendectomy, a surgery that removes an appendix when it becomes infected. This procedure will cost $1,500, and Oo Ler and his family need your support.
Oo Ler said, “After I am fully recovered, I will return home and help my family with the work on the farm. Now, my son needs to look after the buffalo, and my wife is working alone on the farm. She also has to look after all of the household chores. I am worried that if I take too long for my treatment, my wife might not be able to manage the farm, and we will not have enough rice.”
