Reaksmey is a determined 16-year-old boy from Cambodia. He lives in Kratie Province with his parents and older brother. His father and brother work as construction workers, while his mother manages the household. Due to financial difficulties, he had to leave school after Grade 9. He enjoys playing football with his friends and loves eating vegetable soup. Three months ago, Reaksmey was involved in a traffic accident that caused a displaced fracture of the mid-shaft of his left femur. Following the injury, his family sought treatment from a traditional healer, but his condition did not improve. During his recovery, he also suffered another fall, which worsened his injury. After remaining unable to stand or walk for several months, his parents took him to a private clinic, where X-rays confirmed a severe fracture of his left femur. He experiences persistent pain in his left thigh and has difficulty moving his leg. He is unable to stand or walk without assistance, and his left leg has become shorter than the right. Because of prolonged immobility, the muscles in his left thigh have become weak and wasted, significantly affecting his mobility and daily activities. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On June 1st, Reaksmey will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will stabilize the fracture and promote healing. This procedure will help reduce pain, improve leg alignment and strength, and allow him to stand and walk more comfortably again. His family can contribute $100, but needs help raising $500 more to fund his procedure and care. Reaksmey's mother said, “We hope this treatment will help our son walk normally again and live without pain. Seeing him unable to stand or walk has been very difficult, and we are grateful for the opportunity to help him recover.”

Srey Nuth is 22 years old and a young dancer from a rural area in Kandal province, Cambodia. She lives with her parents and is the fourth of five siblings. Her father is a construction worker, and her mother manages household tasks. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music and watching the news. Srey Nuth was recently involved in a road traffic accident that caused a fracture in her left femur. She experiences left knee pain, stiffness, and difficulty walking, which prevents her from performing as a dancer. On April 6th, Srey will undergo a fracture repair procedure with the help of our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre. This procedure will relieve pain, improve mobility, and allow her to return to work. Her family can contribute $100, but needs help raising $500 more to fund her procedure and care. Srey Nuth said, “After the surgery, I hope that I will be able to walk without pain, so I can return to my work and earn money to support my family.”

Lekiberu is a four-year-old boy from Ethiopia. He is active, sociable, and loves being around people. He enjoys watching other children, learning spelling, and playing with his sister. He is very attached to people and loves spending time with others. Lekiberu lives with his parents, aunt, and sister in a rented house. His mother sells vegetables to support the family, while his father works as a daily laborer in construction. Lekiberu was born prematurely at seven months because his mother was seriously ill during pregnancy due to a blood-related condition. When Lekiberu turned four years old, he started losing his appetite. His mother first visited a pharmacy, where the pharmacist advised her to take him to a private hospital. At the hospital, the doctor examined Lekiberu, explained his condition, and prescribed supplements. His family became anxious, frustrated, and heartbroken because they could not afford surgery at a private hospital. After returning home, Lekiberu’s mother asked relatives for advice about his condition. They suggested taking him to our facility, BethanyKids. At first, she could not believe the service was real because of their difficult financial situation. However, they later visited, where Lekiberu was examined, and his condition was confirmed. Lekiberu was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remain undescended. If left untreated, Lekiberu has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future. The medical team also discovered that he had low iron levels and was underweight, so his surgery was postponed for two months while he received treatment and nutritional support. Now, Lekiberu’s hemoglobin and iron levels are in good condition, and his health has improved. His mother shared, “My spirit also became better and relieved after coming to BethanyKids.” Lekiberu will be receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH). Fortunately, he is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on May 29th. AMH is requesting $754 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Lekiberu’s mother expressed her gratitude, saying, “I have no words to express my feelings. People may not understand the situation we went through, but God knows everything. God bless you all, and glory to God. I know you sacrificed so much for Lekiberu, and I thank God for using you to support and help our family.”
