Chaw is a 14-month-old girl from Burma. She lives with her parents, brother, and three sisters. Everyone in her family, except her youngest sister who goes to school, works on the farm, growing rice, betel nut and lime. They also have a small rubber plantation. Sometimes, Chaw's father and brother also work as day laborers. Two days after she was born, Chaw's mother noticed a lump at the base of her spine. The lump gradually increased in size, and when she was brought to a hospital in Thailand, the doctor suspected that the lump was caused by spina bifida. Doctors want Chaw to undergo a MRI, an imaging procedure that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce images of bodily organs. This scan will hopefully help doctors diagnose her condition and formulate an appropriate treatment plan. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $814 to cover the cost of Chaw's MRI and care, which is scheduled for February 7th. Chaw's mother said, "After I noticed that her lump was increasing in size, I felt very worried that her condition is caused by cancer. I am really thankful to all of the donors and BCMF staff. May this organization continue to help more patients in the future."

Amani is a bright, thirteen-year-old student who enjoys her studies. She dreams of becoming a teacher in the future. She comes from a small family with two children and is being raised by two loving parents. Her parents are self-employed - running a small business selling food products around their area. They both work hard to make sure they earn money that will enable them to provide for their family. The food business has been hard, and they must slow down the business hoping for a better harvest this year. In 2021, Amani suffered a fractured wrist and it did not heal well. She does not have full range of motion of her hand limiting her use of it, which is making life harder for her. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Amani receive treatment. On February 27th, surgeons at their care center will perform a surgery so that she will be able to use her hand freely. Now, Amani's family needs help to fund this $639 procedure. Amani’s mother says, “She was happy when she knew that treatment was a possibility. The hope in her gives us strength.”

Vichea is a 37-year-old soft drink seller from Cambodia. He is married and has two daughters and one son. When he is not working, Vichea enjoys playing with his small son and helping his wife at home. When he was six, Vichea had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, or an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. Because of this, Vichea experiences hearing loss, discharge, and pain. It is difficult for him to communicate with others, and the pain and discharge disrupts his sleep. The medications to alleviate his symptoms are expensive and have not treated the problem. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), is helping Vichea receive treatment. He traveled to CSC's care center where, on November 16th, he will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure in his right ear. During the procedure, ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Now, he needs help raising $926 to fund his procedure and care. Vichea shared, "I hope my hearing improves and my ear heals."
