Isaack is a 41-year-old from Dedza District in Malawi. He lives with his wife and children, and enjoys a meal of rice and chicken.
Four years ago, Isaack began to experience troubling symptoms, including a swelling on the right side of his neck, accompanied by night sweats and weight loss. At first, he thought the symptoms would go away, but noticed that the swelling was getting bigger by day. He decided to seek medical attention at a local hospital, and was referred to our medical partner care center, Partners in Hope Medical Center (PIH). By this time, Isaack was experiencing additional symptoms including pain when swallowing, and shortness of breath, especially while performing his daily activities.
At PIH, Isaack was diagnosed with multinodular goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. The thyroid is the gland located in front of your neck and produces thyroid hormones. These hormones are responsible for functions such as metabolism, growth and other bodily functions. He needs surgery to prevent his symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Isaack receive treatment. He is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on March 6th, where surgeons will remove all or part of his thyroid gland. He and his family are able to contribute towards the cost of his treatment, but need help raising $1,015 more to fund the surgery
Isaack said, “I hope to fully recover after surgery, just like others who have undergone the same procedure. I would like to resume in my farming work so I can continue to provide for my family.”
