Marie-Yolande is a 44 year-old woman from Haiti. She is the mother of two children and they all live together in Port-au-Prince. In her free time, she enjoys attending church. Before her illness, Marie-Yolande worked as a street merchant. In December 2016, she began to experience a lot of pain in her breast. She went to the hospital, where she had a mammogram, multiple exams, and a biopsy. The results showed that Marie-Yolande had breast cancer. After four sessions of chemotherapy, Marie-Yolande will have a mastectomy on August 27. Our medical partner, Innovating Health International, has requested $1,085 to fund Marie-Yolande's procedure. This will cover the full cost of treatment, including a two-night hospital stay, medication, labs, radiology, physician and nurse time, and travel expenses. After her surgery, Marie-Yolande hopes to become more independent and be healthy again.

Marie-Ange is a 30-year-old mother of three living in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. To support her family, Marie-Ange worked as a street merchant selling cosmetic products. About two years ago, Marie-Ange felt a small mass in her left breast. She saw a doctor, who told her that the mass was not dangerous and prescribed her some medication. Noticing that the mass did not go away, Marie-Ange sought a second opinion from a doctor at our medical partner's care center, St. Luc Family Hospital. Doctors at St. Luc did a biopsy of the mass and diagnosed Marie-Ange with breast cancer. However, before she could begin chemotherapy Marie-Ange found out that she was pregnant. Doctors therefore decided to forego chemotherapy and conduct a mastectomy. After giving birth, Marie-Ange was still feeling discomfort at the site of the mass. She returned to the hospital to have the mass re-examined and doctors suggested she undergo a second mastectomy and then chemotherapy. Our medical partner, Innovating Health International, is requesting $1,085 to fund the surgery. Marie-Ange is hopeful that after treatment she will be able to return to her job and continue to care for her young family. Her surgery is scheduled for August 26.

Mirlene is a 48-year-old woman from Haiti. She is the mother of three children, and she currently lives with her eldest daughter in Port-au-Prince. Before she became ill, Mirlene worked as a housekeeper. In her free time, Mirlene enjoys going to church and participating in church activities. She did not have the opportunity to attend school, but she made sure that all of her kids attended to school. In November 2016, Mirlene felt a small mass in her right breast. However, the mass did not cause her any pain. She asked her friends and neighbors where she should go to seek help, and was referred to St. Luc Family Hospital (our medical partner's care center) and their cancer program. In December 2016, Mirlene underwent a biopsy and was diagnosed with cancer. Her diagnosis did not sadden her, and she was ready to fight. After four sessions of chemotherapy, Mirlene will undergo a mastectomy on August 26. Our medical partner, Innovating Health International, has requested $1,085 to fund Mirlene's procedure. This amount will cover the full cost of Mirlene's treatment, including a two-night hospital stay, supplies, medication, labs, physician and nurse time, radiology, and travel expenses. After her surgery, she will also have four sessions of chemotherapy again. After treatment, Mirlene will be able to get back into work and support herself and her children.

Wislande is a 48-year-old woman from Haiti. Wislande has five children. Her family lives in Port-au-Prince. Wislande used to work as a street merchant before she became ill. Wislande enjoys attending church and participating in the activities with her church. At our medical partner's care center, Wislande was diagnosed with breast cancer. She will have to undergo a double mastectomy, since the cancer has now spread to her right breast. As a result of her illness, Wislande cannot wash her clothes or clean the house. She also cannot work and support herself. Fortunately, in May 2017, Wislande started chemotherapy. After four sessions of chemotherapy, Wislande will undergo a double mastectomy on August 26. Our medical partner, Innovating Health International, is requesting $1,085 to cover Wislande's procedure. This will cover the full cost of treatment, including labs, medication, physician and nurse time, radiology, supplies, and travel expenses.

Rose is a 51-year-old mother of two from Haiti. She and her children—who are now grown, and have children of their own—all live together with Rose’s mother. In her spare time, Rose enjoys going to church activities (she was recently baptized) and taking care of her grandchildren. Until recently, Rose earned money to support her family by selling grilled corn as a street merchant. But lately, Rose has had to go without this income source. Her health has not been good, and so the heat of the grill and the heavy lifting involved in transporting her produce make the job too physically demanding for her. For some time, Rose’s right breast has been itchy and painful to the touch. She also feels very tired all the time. Around a year ago, she went to the hospital. Multiple exams revealed that she has breast cancer. Although this diagnosis was very upsetting for Rose, she wants to take all the right steps to win her health back. Her doctors have recommended a mastectomy, and she has been scheduled to undergo one on August 3. But she cannot afford the procedure. We need to raise $1,085 to sponsor Rose’s surgery, as well as the necessary lab tests, medications, and travel to and from the medical center. After this mastectomy, Rose will be able to enjoy time with her family again—especially with the grandchildren that she adores. She will also be able to help support her family by returning to work.

Melienne is a 35-year-old woman who lives in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She is the mother of a nine-year-old little girl. She is not currently working but has worked in a hotel and as a street merchant. When she is not working or providing for her daughter, Melienne really enjoys listening to music and singing. She describes it as her passion. Some time ago, Melienne noticed a mass in her breast but did not pay attention to it since it did not hurt. In January of 2017 she finally went to the hospital and had a biopsy. She was diagnosed with breast cancer. Melienne will be getting a mastectomy on July 29. Our medical partner, Innovating Health International, is requesting $1,085 to fund this treatment. With this surgery, Melienne will likely be able to be present in her young daughter’s life. She will be able to become more active and start working as well.

Marie-Litane is a 61-year-old woman from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She has one daughter and three grandchildren, all of whom she adores. Before the development of her condition, Marie-Litane operated a small beauty salon from within her home. She also cooks, loves to bake, and farms a little as well. Upon feeling a potential mass in her breast, Marie-Litane had a mammogram and multiple exams conducted at a nearby health center. Results confirmed a diagnosis of breast cancer. Marie-Litane has since undergone four sessions of chemotherapy. Our medical partner, Innovating Health International, is requesting $1,085 to fund a mastectomy for Marie-Litane, which is scheduled to take place on July 29. The procedure will greatly decrease the risk of cancer metastasis and will hopefully allow her to return to the activities that she greatly enjoys. Marie-Litane has not felt like herself in a long time; following surgery, she is looking forward to being healthy and more independent.

While she initially did not think much of it because of its size, Marie-Nicole grew increasingly worried as the mass grew and began to cause her pain. At our medical partner's care center, St. Luc Family Hospital, a biopsy confirmed Marie-Nicole's diagnosis with breast cancer. She has since undergone four sessions of chemotherapy. Our medical partner, Innovating Health International, is requesting $1,085 to fund a mastectomy for Marie-Nicole, which is scheduled to take place on July 29. The procedure will greatly decrease the risk of cancer metastasis and will hopefully allow her to return to the activities that she greatly enjoys. Marie-Nicole is excited to be able to receive this treatment and looks forward to getting her health back.

Oriana is a 70-year-old mother of five kids. She lives in a town in the southern province of Haiti. About a year ago, while laying down, Oriana felt something hard in her breast. She went to the hospital, and the doctor sent her to get a mammogram in Port-au-Prince, the capital. She went to the hospital, met with the doctors there, and had a biopsy. The results showed that it was breast cancer. Oriana was referred to our medical partner's care center, St. Luc Family Hospital. She has had four sessions of chemotherapy. Now, our medical partner, Innovating Health International, is requesting $1,085 to fund surgery to remove the tumor in Oriana's breast. The operation is scheduled to take place on July 29. With this surgery, Oriana will likely regain her previous quality of life. She is looking forward to becoming more involved in her church.

Acelie is a 61-year-old woman who was originally from the southern part of Haiti but currently lives in Port-au-Prince. She is the mother of four kids. Acelie used to be a street merchant and sold food items but currently does not work. She enjoys going to church and likes to clean her house. One day, Acelie started to feel some pain in her back on her way home from work. She had to go to the hospital because the pain was so intense. She went to multiple hospitals, but she never received a diagnosis. She went to a maternity hospital, where she had a mammogram and a biopsy. The doctor there sent her to another hospital, where they officially diagnosed her with breast cancer. In January, Acelie had her consultations and started her treatment with chemotherapy. After four sessions of chemotherapy, Acelie will have a mastectomy on July 29. Our medical partner, Innovating Health International, is requesting $1,085 to fund this surgery to remove the tumor in Acelie's breast. Acelie hopes that she will be less dependent on her kids and will be able to start working again.

Marie-Guerda is a 39-year-old woman who is the mother of two girls. Marie-Guerda lives with her husband and children in the southern province of Haiti. She used to be a kindergarten teacher, but she isn’t currently working. She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. After four sessions of chemotherapy, a treatment that decreases cancerous cells, Marie-Guerda will have a mastectomy. She is relieved that she will have surgery soon, for she wants to regain her independence and return to work. She wants to be able to take care of her children and be fully present in their lives as they grow up. Marie-Guerda will have her operation on July 28. Our medical partner, Innovating Health International, is requesting $1,285 to fund this operation to remove the malignant tumor in Marie-Guerda's breast.

Guerda is a 52-year-old mother of three from Haiti. Guerda used to cook for a living. She worked primarily at a restaurant she was running from within her home, and she specialized in Haitian cuisine. Besides cooking, Guerda is heavily involved in her church; she used to often go on mission trips all around Haiti. About a year ago, Guerda found a small mass in her left breast. Although the local health center told her that there was no cause for concern, Guerda noticed her breast rapidly increase in size. Upon referral to our medical partner's care center, St. Luc Family Hospital, Guerda was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has since undergone eight sessions of chemotherapy, which have completely sapped her energy and made it difficult for her to provide for her family. Our medical partner, Innovating Health International, is requesting $1,085 to fund a mastectomy for Guerda, which is scheduled to take place on July 27. The procedure will greatly decrease the risk of cancer metastasis and will hopefully allow Guerda to return to the activities that she greatly enjoys. Guerda accepts that she cannot change what has happened, so she is therefore firm in her resolve to not let her condition take over her life and spirit.
