Meet Eugine, a three-year-old boy from Kenya! According to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF), Eugine is a playful boy who “writes on anything along his way.” Eugine lives with his parents and sister in their two-room house.
After noticing that her son’s right testis appeared to be abnormal, Eugine’s mother sought medical help. Following an examination, AMHF doctors identified the problem as an undescended testis. Due to this condition, “Eugine’s right testicle cannot be felt in the scrotum.”
Typically, testicles naturally descend approximately six months after birth. In rare cases, however, this will fail to happen and medical intervention is required to prevent further health complications. As AMHF explains, “if Eugine is not treated, [this condition] can affect his fertility or lead to other medical problems such as an inguinal hernia.”
Immediately following his diagnosis, Eugine’s parents dedicated their time to ensuring their son receives the treatment he needs. As Eugine’s family depends on his father’s very modest income, they are unable cover the treatment costs by themselves and sought help from friends and family.
Eugine’s parents have raised $250—the equivalent of over 26,400 in Kenyan shillings—to subsidize the total cost of his treatment.
With $540 in additional funding, Eugine will receive an orchidopexy to surgically correct his undescended testis. This operation will move the undescended testis into its proper place in the scrotum. Following this operation, Eugine will remain in the hospital for three additional days, giving him access to all of the medical support he may need.
The proposed treatment offers a long term solution to Eugine’s condition, reducing his risk of developing a hernia.
Eugine’s father shares, “I’m in dire need of help, I have tried my best but could not raise the entire funds for his treatment. I will really appreciate your help towards my son's treatment.”
