Enock is an 11-year-old boy with microtia-bilateral (congenital underdevelopment of external ears). Because of his condition, Enock can only hear when someone speaks loudly and close to his ear. If left untreated, Enock will likely lose his hearing altogether.
Fortunately, doctors at African Mission Healthcare Foundation can reconstruct Enock’s ears. They are confident that with surgery, they can significantly improve Enock’s hearing.
Enock is from a remote village in Kenya. His father, Samuel, is 65 years old and makes his living on a small farm while Enock’s mother looks after the children. Enock’s siblings try to speak in loud tones to accommodate him, but sometimes they forget and continue conversation in regular tones. Because of this, Enock says he prefers to spend his time helping his father on the farm. Though quiet and reserved, Enock is confident and wants to be a teacher when he grows up. Enock’s father is concerned that his son might become isolated. He hopes he can get the treatment he needs to live a normal life.
