Godwin is a two-year-old baby boy and the first born child in a family of two children. Godwin's parents are small scale farmers of maize and vegetables, which is what their family relies on mainly for food. Earlier this year Godwin's father traveled to Kenya to try making a living by selling Maasai sandals, belts and beads. He is able to send back some money once in a while. In the past three weeks, Godwin's mother noticed that Godwin has not been himself. He's having pain and cries a lot. Godwin has been diagnosed with inguinal hernia, a condition in which soft tissue bulges through a weak point in the abdominal muscles. Fortunately, on July 4th, Godwin is scheduled to undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $566 to fund Godwin's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will allow him to live more comfortably. Godwin’s mother shares, "My baby is usually in pain when the area swells up. Please help him get this treatment for we are not able to afford the cost."

Jayden is a young boy from Kenya. Jayden is the first born of two children. He lives with his mother and younger sister in a two-room house in Nairobi. Jayden’s mother hawks earrings to sustain her needs and those of her two children. His father on the other hand left them a while back when Jayden’s mother lost a well-paying job. Jayden was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remains undescended. If left untreated, Jayden has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future. Jayden will be receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). Fortunately, he is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on November 28th. AMHF is requesting $535 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. “I want to be a doctor when I grow up,” says Jayden.

Wilmer was referred to Watsi's medical partner in Guatemala, Wuqu' Kawoq, by a government-run health care center where they cannot afford to buy formula for patients. Wilmer has not had any breastmilk for five days now, since his mother has been unable to produce milk. Wilmer has lost a significant amount of weight, and is now a pound smaller than he was when he was born less than three weeks ago. His grandmother has been giving him sugar water with anise to try to calm him down, since he cries almost constantly. Without treatment, Wilmer will not survive, and will face risks of permanent brain damage, seizures, and diarrhea if he does not receive treatment soon. Wilmer is the only child to a single mother that has special needs. Since his mother cannot care for herself, Wilmer's grandmother takes care of him. Wilmer's family has few resources, and they depend on Wilmer's grandfather to provide for the family. Many days they do not even have money to buy tortillas to eat, let alone one tin of formula that costs more than their monthly income. The treatment that Wilmer requires is simple and will save his life. For $1,016, Wilmer will receive milk formula and micronutrient supplementation to nourish his body. This will allow him to grow normally, gain weight, and avoid permanent brain damage. "I dream that my grandson will be able to grow and one day can study and pursue a profession," said Wilmer's grandmother.

Dorcas is a 6-year-old girl from Guatemala who suffered a severe burn to the right side of her chest and armpit from a falling candle. She was immediately transferred to a burn center, where she was successfully skin grafted. However, her family can’t afford to pay for the rehabilitation work she needs in order to preserve the function of her right arm (the risk of scar tissue forming could seriously limit her arm and shoulder mobility). We are seeking funding to help provide Dorcas with the skin care medications, pressure garments, and two months of rehabilitation she needs to preserve the function of her arm. Let’s pitch in and make sure this 6-year-old girl is able to fully recover from this terrible accident.
