Anthony is 34 and from Kenya. He was attacked by robbers on his way home a few months ago and was left with a lower jaw fracture. He is currently living with his brother and sister, who are helping to take care of him. As a result of the fracture, it is difficult for him to eat and speak. “I just want to be able to talk and eat like I did before the attack,” he says. For $1,200, we can help Anthony receive an open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of the mandible. This cost will cover the surgery on his jaw, medications, and the necessary hospitalization. This will help him be able to speak and eat normally again. Anthony has had a rough few months; let's help him to receive the surgery that he needs!

Margaret is a school teacher and mother of 4 who has cervical dysplasia. Chased from her home in 2007 as a consequence of politically-related violence, Margaret spent the intervening years working to provide for her family. Margaret dreams of watching her children mature into strong, independent adults. Margaret's condition is a precursor to potentially life-threatening cervical cancer, but thankfully it is still treatable. $750 will pay for a total abdominal hysterectomy (removal of the uterus), which will treat Margaret's cervical dysplasia and preempt the cancer that could develop if left untreated. Treatment would let Margaret return to work, care for her family, and make good on her dream of watching her children grow.

Ann is a loving, hardworking woman who has been faced with some impossible challenges. She lives with her husband in a 10-foot iron sheet house in a small village in Kenya. Ann sells clothes to make a living and her husband sells kerosene. They make barely enough to live on. Ann and her husband have a son, Ian, but they can’t support him. He lives with Ann’s sister in a neighboring district, where he is cared for, fed, and getting an education. Ian is in the fifth grade, and Ann visits him every chance she gets. Like many mothers around the world, Ann dreams of seeing her son graduate from college and become a doctor. Recently, Ann was diagnosed with cervical dysplasia. She needs surgery to remove her cervix; otherwise doctors at African Mission Healthcare Foundation worry that her condition could evolve into cancer. It would take Ann more than two years to make the $750 she needs for surgery. We need to cover the cost of the procedure so Ann can live the healthy life she deserves.

Rolando is a 2-year-old boy with a cleft lip and palate. Because of his condition, Rolando has trouble eating and breathing. He has already been treated for pneumonia several times, and if left untreated Rolando will continue to be at risk for serious respiratory infection. Given the remote location of Rolando’s home village, this could be fatal. Fortunately, Floating Doctors can arrange for Rolando to get the treatment he needs. With surgery, they believe Rolando can grow up normally. Rolando is from an indigenous area of Panama. His mother is tirelessly devoted to him and his three siblings, but they live on less than $1.60 per day. Just the cost of traveling to the mainland of Panama is prohibitive for them. To get Rolando the care he needs, Floating Doctors will cross two bodies of water and a 5,000 foot-tall mountain range. Kirshan is a 7-year-old boy with an undescended testicle, a common abnormality that if left untreated, could lead to infertility later in life. Luckily, Kirshan can have surgery to correct his condition. His doctors say that surgery will “reduce the risk of infertility, allowing Kirshan to lead a normal life.” Kirshan is a sweet, shy boy who is the youngest of five siblings. He loves playing football and marbles with his brothers, and wants to study science so he can become a doctor one day. Kirshan’s father runs a tea stall, where he earns enough money to send his children to school, but not to pay for the medical care Kirshan needs. Kirshan’s family hopes we can raise the money he needs to get treatment.

Jorge is a delightful 6-year-old boy who was brought to the Wuqu’ Kawoq clinic by his parents because he has never talked. The doctors at WK diagnosed him with severe sensorineural hearing loss. If left untreated, Jorge’s condition will prevent him from hearing anything except for loud noises and will continue to impede the development of his language abilities. Luckily, Jorge’s hearing loss can be easily treated with hearing aids and therapy. Jorge has three brothers and sisters. His mother and father are very supportive but do not have the financial resources to get him medical help. We need to cover the cost of fitting Jorge with hearing aids and giving him speech therapy to help him develop some language ability. He’ll also begin learning to sign, which will allow him to interact in a more meaningful way with his family and friends and enable him to go to school.

Emiliana is a 52-year-old mother of three young school children fighting non-Hodgkins lymphoma. She has powered through most of her chemotherapy like a champ, and has just three more rounds to go before she is finished with treatment. Emiliana has a large and devoted family that has been able to scrape together enough cash to pay for her medical expenses so far, but their financial resources are now exhausted. Without medical insurance or a safety net to catch her, Emiliana is out of options. If Emiliana gets these last three rounds of treatment, she will have a fair shot at getting back to being the strong and healthy mother that her young children need. It’s up to us to make sure Emiliana makes it to the finish line. Let’s help her kick cancer’s butt!

Tilahun has suffered from rheumatic heart fever and mitral stenosis (a condition that prevents the heart's mitral valve from fully opening) for the last thirteen years. For as long as he can remember, Tilahun has dealt with fatigue, shortness of breath, and chest pain on a daily basis. Tilahun lives in a mud hut without electricity or running water. His parents, both farmers, have spent most of their meager incomes on his medical expenses, and their resources are running out. Tilahun is extremely bright. He ranks fourth out of sixty-five students in his class! Seriously, ALL this kid does is study, with occasional breaks to watch his favorite soccer teams play. Tilahun's dream is to continue his education and become a teacher. Recently, Tilahun's condition has become so bad that he's had to make the agonizing decision to leave school. His doctors say that if left untreated, his condition could cause heart failure. We need to raise $1,575 so Tilahun can afford to fly to India and get the treatment that can save his life.
