Dane is a bright 6-year-old girl. She lives in a remote province with her grandmother while her parents live and work in the capital of Phnom Penh to make a better living to support their family. Dane's father is a construction worker and her mother is a factory worker. Dane has recently started the first grade. When not in school, Dane loves to have her grandmother tell her stories and playing with her older sister. For the past two years, Dane has been experiencing frequent fevers and sore throats. Dane's mother took her to a local clinic for medicine, but this has not improved her symptoms. Dane has difficulty swallowing and eating causing her to be small for her age. Dane was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause her symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is helping Dane's family requesting $265 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy scheduled to take place April 20th. Surgeons will remove her tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Dane of her symptoms and helping her live much more comfortably. Her mother said, "I hope that Dane will be better after her surgery and her infections won't come back."

Tindimwebwa is a 55-year-old farmer and a married mother of seven children. All of her children are married and she lives with her husband and two grandchildren. She farms cereals such as sorghum, millet, beans and maize. To earn extra income, she sells a traditionally made porridge called Bushera. For three years, Tindimwebwa has been experiencing lower abdominal pain and bleeding. She is not able to do any strenuous work due to her condition. She has been diagnosed with a premalignant cervical lesion and surgery was recommended. The surgery will reduce the chances that the lesion will become malignant. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Tindimwebwa to receive treatment. On July 6th, she will have a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus, at AMH's care center. Once recovered, Tindimwebwa will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Now, AMH is requesting $219 to cover the total cost of her procedure and care. Tindimwebwa shared, “I wish my health gets better after surgery so that I can resume farming to sustain and keep my family happy as it has always been.”

Sarorn is a 33-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She is the first born of four siblings, and enjoys watching television, listening to music, and reading books in her free time. Two months ago, Sarorn had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her right ear to perforate. For this reason, Sarorn experiences tinnitus and hearing loss. She cannot communicate well among her family members and finds it difficult to go about her daily activities because of the pain. Sarorn traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On February 3rd, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $464 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. "I hope that after my surgery is complete, my ear drum will heal and I will be able to hear clearly again," she shared.

Vandy is a twelfth-grade student from Cambodia. He enjoys playing soccer, listening to music, and hanging out with his friends. He hopes to become a police officer when he gets older. In June 2019, Vandy was in a severe motorcycle accident that fractured his left leg. He went for treatment at a referral hospital where doctors fixed Vandy with internal hardware to heal his fracture. Now, a nail from the hardware has broken, leaving him with pain and discomfort. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On November 19th, Vandy will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $214. Surgery will remove the hardware and ensure that Vandy can move and walk again with ease and comfort. Vandy said, "I hope that I will feel better soon and no longer have any pain so I can return to my studies."
