Srorn is a rice farmer from Cambodia. He has one daughter. He likes to watch boxing and football matches on TV. One month ago, Srorn developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him blurred vision and potophobia. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Srorn learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for five hours seeking treatment. On July 10, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $211 procedure. He says, "I hope I can see everything clearer after the operation so I can continue my work as a farmer."

Im is a rice farmer from Cambodia. She enjoys watching social programs on TV. One year ago, Im developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her partial blindness, irritation, and a cloudy lens. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Im learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On July 16, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. She says, "I hope after surgery that my vision is clear so I can recognize my relatives' faces."

Praxidis is a farmer from Kenya. She is a mother of four children and lives with her husband. Praxidis has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Without treatment, the cancer may spread to other organs. A mastectomy, a surgery to remove breast tissue, has been suggested to rid her body of breast cancer and to prevent the cancer from metastasizing. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $816 to cover the cost of a mastectomy for Praxidis. The procedure is scheduled to take place on July 4. After treatment, Praxidis will hopefully return to a cancer-free life. Praxidis says, “I am optimistic that soon I will be treated and go back to the village to help my husband in the farm.”

Horn is a rice farmer from Cambodia. She has two sons. She likes to play games and watch TV. One year ago, Horn had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her right ear to perforate. For this reason, Horn experiences pain and tinnitus. She is in chronic pain. Horn traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On July 11, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Her sister says, "I worry about my sister's hearing and ear pain. I hope it is gone after the operation."

Birungi is a toddler from Uganda. He is the youngest of five children. Birungi is in pre-school. His parents are farmers. For about a year, Birungi has had an inguinal hernia. This hernia causes him pain and discomfort and if not treated, it may result in intestinal tissue damage or blockage. Fortunately, on July 11, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund Birungi's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably.

Damaclin is an infant from Kenya. Her mother sells groceries, while her father is a security guard. Damaclin was born with spina bifida, a type of neural tube defect in which the spine does not properly close around the spinal cord. Without treatment, Damaclin is at risk of lower-limb paralysis, infection of the exposed nervous tissue, development of tethered cord syndrome, and possible developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,097 to cover the cost of Damaclin's spina bifida closure surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on July 11. This procedure will hopefully spare Damaclin from the risks associated with her condition, instead allowing her to grow and develop along a healthy trajectory.

Naomi is a young student from Kenya. She is the sixth born child in a family of eight children. Her mother sells vegetables in a small grocery shop, while her father is a construction worker. Naomi injured her left femur in early April 2018. She had a cast applied, recuperated well, and was ready to resume school. Unfortunately, she fell on the school stairs and broke her femur in the same location around mid-June. It is difficult for her to walk, and she has not been able to attend school. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On July 3, Naomi will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will help her walk easily again. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,451 to fund this procedure. Naomi says, “My prayer is to get well and resume my studies. I want to excel and join a national high school."

Mafeeta is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. He is married with four children. Three years ago, Mafeeta developed a swelling on his right cheek that has been growing in size. He experiences pain and discomfort. Mafeeta traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On July 10, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Mafeeta needs help to raise $187 to fund this procedure. Mafeeta says, “I hope to be relieved of discomfort, pain, and disfigurement after surgery and I will continue with cultivation.”
