Myo Chit lives with his family in refugee camp. "They used to live in rural area," our hospital partner explains, "however his family fled to the camp to escape the Burmese soldiers recruiting laborers." Myo Chit is the oldest of six children. He was studying in 2nd grade and loved going to school. But he stopped attending last year when he contracted cellulitis - a bacterial infection - after he fractured his tibia slipping in the bathroom. Myo Chit cannot walk. When he sits for too long, his leg swells up and becomes painful. His parents cannot afford his medical expenses. His father only works as day laborer, but only gets jobs about ten days a month. If we can help him get the healthcare he needs, Myo Chit is excited to return to school and get an education. "He is looking forward to playing football with his friends. He would like to help people when he gets older as a medic or a doctor," our partner in Burma writes.

Meet Umesh, a playful 10-year-old boy from Nepal. Being from a very rural part of the country, Umesh is only now starting his first year of school. While heading to school with his friends one day, Umesh had an accident with a tractor, leaving a severe cut on his left leg. If the wound is left untreated, an infection could spread and Umesh would be at risk of having his leg amputated. Umesh's father runs a small tea and snack shop. He cannot afford treatment for his son on his earnings from the shop. For $1,045, Umesh will receive skin grafting and other treatments to heal the wound and prevent him from getting an infection. In many ways, Binod is a typical 11-year-old boy. He loves to run, play volleyball, and study math in school. Recently, Binod was collecting leaves to feed the family cattle when he fell from a tree and broke his left arm. The break was severe, and he now has pain and swelling in his elbow joint. His doctors at our medical partner, Nyaya Health, would like to perform surgery to ensure that Binod is able to use his hand again. Meet Billal! Billal is a charming four-year-old from Ethiopia who lives with his father and two siblings. His young father is still pursuing a university education, and Billal relies on his father's education bursary to support themselves. Billal was born with Hirschprung's disease, meaning that some of the nerve cells in his colon are missing, and Billal cannot pass stool properly. As a result, he has been unable to gain weight. For $1,500, Billal will receive surgery to remove the part of his colon missing the nerve cells, and reattach the remaining parts of his colon. After this surgery, doctors expect that Billal will be able to pass stool normally. Billal's father says that he has big dreams for his son ("He will be a doctor if he is cured!"). "I want to be a teacher," eight-year-old Felista said, "but the headaches make it hard for me to concentrate in school." The headaches Felista is experiencing are caused by a tumor in her skull that is putting pressure on her brain. Felista's family, who live in Kenya, are unable to pay for the necessary surgery that will remove the brain tumor. Felista's mother is a farm worker and her father is unemployed, and despite their best efforts, they cannot afford the surgery on their own. For $1,500, we can fund Felista's craniotomy, and she will likely no longer experience the headaches she has now.
