Five months ago, Voy developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her pain, burning, irritation, and a clouded lens. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Voy learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for five hours seeking treatment. On August 6, doctors will perform a extra-capsular cataract extraction surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Sary is a farmer from Cambodia. She has three daughters, five sons, and five grandchildren. She likes to read about Buddha. Three years ago, Sary developed a pterygium in her right eye, causing her blurred vision, burning, irritation, and tearing. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is exposed to excessive sun damage and the cells grow abnormally over the pupil. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside. When Sary learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for half an hour seeking treatment. Sary needs a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the cornea surface and replace it with a conjunctival graft to prevent recurrence. The total cost of her procedure is $201. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care for two days. The procedure is scheduled for August 1. Her daughter says, "I hope my mom's surgery is successful so she can feel and look better."

Moussa is a 46-year-old farmer who lives with his wife and two children in Mali. He is well-liked in his community, and is known for his dance moves and easy smile. Last year, when Moussa was cultivating his crops, a tree trunk fell on him and wounded his leg. The injury didn't heal properly and it turned into an ulcer. Moussa spent all the money he could spare on medications that were supposed to alleviate his pain. Unfortunately, the medications didn't help, and now, he is unable to walk. In order to make sure Moussa's wound heals properly he will need surgery and proper medication.
