Abdiaziz is a child from Ethiopia. He is a beautiful baby boy. Abdiaziz has two brothers and a sister and he loves to play with his mom. Abdiaziz is exclusively breastfeeding. His father is an English teacher in a language school with a limited income while his mother is a house wife. They live in a rented house and Abdiaziz’s father's income is only enough for their basic needs. Abdiaziz was born with an anorectal malformation, a congenital abnormality that leads to a complete or partial intestinal blockage. He needs to undergo a series of procedures to eliminate bowel dysfunction. Abdiaziz is scheduled to undergo surgery to correct his condition on February 6th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Abdiaziz's procedure and care. After his recovery, Abdiaziz will no longer experience bowel dysfunction or be at risk of developing health complications in the future. Abdiaziz's mom said “I hope my child will heal completely after the coming surgeries. I believe he will lead a bright future and a quality life.”

On is a 61-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She has one son, one daughter, and five grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoys joining the ceremony at the local pagoda and listening to the monks pray on the radio. Two years ago, On developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When On learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On December 23rd, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. "I hope that after my surgery, I will be able to return to the rice fields and help my daughter," On shared.

Meet Cynthia: a calm girl who is almost turning two. Just two days ago, Cynthia arrived to our medical partner's hospital after falling from being knocked by a sheep, where she fractured her right hand. X-ray imaging revealed a closed supracondylar fracture. Cynthia was admitted for skin traction and she now requires OREF surgery to correct the fracture. This will allow her hand to heal and reduce the chances of healing badly and persistent pain. Cynthia was born and raised in a small village called Sisiya where most of the community works in farms or other small not very stable jobs. Cynthia parents don’t have a formal education. Her mother is a housewife and his father is a security guard in a building. They live in a small mud hut with grass as a roof. Her family gets its food from their small farm, which consists mostly of maize, beans and vegetables. The family doesn’t have money to pay for their daughter’s surgery and she needs $763. The family’s income per month is roughly $30. Her mother is hoping for financial support so that her daughter can undergo the surgery.

“Yusuf has had an abnormally large head since birth. He is often irritable and appears uncomfortable. He is slower meeting his milestones compared to other children his age,” shares Edna Adan Hospital (EAH), our medical partner in Somalia. Yusuf is a one-year-old boy with hydrocephalus, a condition causing build up of fluid in the brain that can impair function. EAH shares more about Yusuf, “He is the youngest of six children. His other siblings are healthy. He had previously been to a traditional healer prior to this where he sustained burns to his head as treatment.” For $640, we can fund a procedure to drain the excess fluid in Yusuf’s brain. This treatment is expected to reduce the circumference of Yusuf’s head, leaving him less irritable and more likely to reach age-appropriate milestones such as sitting unassisted. EAH says Yusuf’s mother "is hopeful that the treatment will make Yusuf more comfortable and less irritable so he can feed better and develop like his siblings.” Together, we can help Yusuf get back on track.
