Meet Lawrence, a 16-year old boy from Kenya. “Lawrence is the second born in a family of five children,” shares our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). “He is in form one and very eager to learn. His mother and father are peasant farmers.”
Lawrence recently slipped and fell on some rocks on the road while out to buy milk, breaking his left arm. “Lawrence was brought to hospital and an x-ray taken showed he had a lower 1/3 fracture of his radius,” explains AMHF. “The doctor suggests an ORIF (open reduction and internal fixation) to repair the bone. Lawrence was supposed to go back to school this week, but he can't because of his injury.”
For $1,125, we can fund surgery that will “repair Lawrence's bone, enabling it to heal well,” says AMHF. “Lawrence shall regain use of his left hand, and in time, go back to school.” The cost of the surgery includes lab, medical, hospital, and surgical costs.
“I hope Watsi will help my son so that he can be well again to continue with his studies,” says Lawrence’s mother. “He is a very bright boy and the hope of our family. I am sorry to see him in this great pain.”
