Aung is a 13-month-old boy from Burma. He lives with his parents, his 13-year-old sister, and 8-year-old brother in Myawaddy, Karen State. Since he was born, Aung has had an inguinal hernia. Aung’s hernia is gradually increasing in size. Fortunately, on June 12, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at Mae Sot General Hospital, our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund Aung's hernia repair surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on June 12 and, once completed, will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably. “We would like our son to finish school and become an educated man,” says Aung’s father.

Tukahirwa is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. Her husband passed away in 2000, leaving her with two children. For three years, Tukahirwa has had a bilateral inguinal hernia. This hernia causes her pain and discomfort. If not treated, it may result in intestinal tissue damage and blocking. Fortunately, on April 10, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Tukahirwa's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and confidently. Tukahirwa says, “I hope to get a better lifestyle after surgery and continue with cultivation."

Losio is a young student from Uganda. She is the sixth out of seven children in her family. Her best subjects are mathematics, chemistry, and English. In the future, she wants to be a biostatistician. About one year ago, Losio developed a swelling on her left forearm. Although it’s not painful, it is increasing in size, making her uncomfortable. Losio traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On May 23, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Losio needs help to raise $196 to fund this procedure. She says, "After surgery I will continue with my studies."

Pet is a vegetable farmer from Cambodia. She has a daughter and a son. She likes to take care of her kids and tend to her farm. When she was four years old, Pet had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her left ear to perforate. For this reason, Pet experiences hearing loss, recurrent infection, and tinnitus. She cannot communicate clearly with others and cannot hear well. Pet traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On June 7, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. She says, "I hope my hearing is improved after the surgery."
