Frank is a 2-week-old baby. His mother is a young student and needs to raise her new baby on her own and with the generosity of her family. Since the birth, she depends on her parents to provide for her and the newborn baby. Frank’s grandparents are small-scale farmers that try their best to provide for their family. It is very difficult for them to afford to take care of everyone right now. Frank was born with clubfoot of his left foot. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner's care center, Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre, will perform clubfoot repair surgery on November 8th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $935 to fund Frank's clubfoot repair. After treatment and as he grows, he will be able to walk easily and wear shoes. Frank’s grandmother says, “It has been hard ever since she got pregnant, and after delivering we were shocked but we are glad to know that the baby’s condition is treatable.”

Mugisha is a 36-year-old preacher from Uganda. He is married with two children, both in preschool. He and his wife practice small-scale farming. Mugisha presented at the hospital with a left submandibular mass that he has had for five years. It’s progressively increasing in size and has resulted in disfigurement around his neck region which sometimes affects his breathing, swallowing, and speaking. This has also affected his vocation as a preacher in a Pentecostal church. Mugisha traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On August 11th, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Mugisha needs help to raise $196 to fund this procedure. Mugisha says: “I will be very glad when I am relieved of this and I look like any other person. I will be able to continue with my preaching and farming after my recovery.”

Srey Khouch is a 12-month-old girl and both of her parents are vegetable sellers. She has one brother and two sisters. Srey Khouch is the youngest child in her family and enjoys playing with toys with her sister. Since birth, Srey Khouch has had a cataract in each eye, causing her poor vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly and recognizing faces, which is impacting her development. When Srey Khouch's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, they traveled there hoping to receive life-changing treatment. On December 28th, doctors will perform a lensectomy and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $425 procedure. Srey Khouch's mother said, "I want my daughter to be able to see well so she can play with her sister and when she is older she can attend school without problems."

Tumuhimbise is a 46-year-old woman from western Uganda. She shared that she has had mental illness at times throughout her life and has never been able to go to school. She now relies on cultivation to make ends meet. Two years ago, Tumuhimbise started experiencing persistent back and lower abdominal pains. Until recently, she had never been to any hospital to seek treatment for the condition. At Nyakibale Hospital, Tumuhimbise underwent scans that indicated she has multiple uterine fibroids. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. However, Tumuhimbise is not able to afford the cost of surgery and appeals for help. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Tumuhimbise's surgery. On December 15th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Tumuhimbise will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Tumuhimbise shared, “I expect to have a new life after surgery. I know I will be able to keep farming once I am fully recovered.”

Pheaktra is a baby from Cambodia. He is an only child. Six months ago, Pheaktra accidentally put his hand in the cooking rice pot. Burn scar contractures have developed, limiting the function of his hand. When Pheaktra's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, they traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On November 22, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help him use his hand. Now, his family needs help to fund this $448 procedure. His father says, "I hope my son can get treatment."

Chhaya is an 11-year-old student from Nepal that lives with her parents and siblings. She studies in grade three. Chhaya’s family struggles to make a living. They farm and sell firewood. This income is not enough to last them even for six months of the year. Chhaya was grazing her cattle when she slipped and broke her right hand. Her hand has swollen and it's been painful since. Not only does she need assistance to do basic day activities, but she has also been missing school and cannot help with chores in the house. $195 will cover the costs of the care Chhaya needs to properly treat her fractured hand, including an x-ray, cast, and physiotherapy. Chhaya's father says, "I hope Chhaya's treatment happens soon."

“I wish the outcome of the treatment to be very good for the baby. May God watch over him. I am looking forward to going back home with David with good news for the mother,” David’s family member says. David is a sweet one-year-old form Haiti who was born with hydrocephalus, causing enlarged head size, intra cranial pressure, and sun setting eyes. If left untreated, this condition can lead to brain damage, a loss of mental and physical abilities, and even death. David is the first born of a young mother who still lives with and is supported her family. The family does not have the means to afford the treatment David needs. We can fund a successful treatment for $1,260. “David has very high chances to be healed from the hydrocephalus. The doctors will operate on him to drain the excess fluid in his head and prevent his head from getting larger,” report our medical partner, Project Medishare. Let’s support David and his family!

“Angela is a sweet little two-year-old girl,” shares our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). “She is the second-born in a family of three children. Angela is very friendly and likes being around people.” “Angela was born perfectly fine without any deformities but, at the age of one year, her legs started to bow outwards,” explains AMHF. Angela, who lives in Tanzania, has bilateral genu varum, a condition that makes one’s legs bow outwards. As a result, it is painful for Angela to walk and it is likely that she will develop early osteoarthritis if this condition is left untreated. For work, Angela’s father drives a motorcycle and her mother sells secondhand clothes. While they work hard to pay for their family’s daily needs, they cannot afford the cost of surgery for their daughter. $940 covers the cost of Angela’s surgery, which will straighten her legs and allow her to walk without pain. “It worried us to see the condition of our daughter getting worse,” Angela’s father tells us. “Our hope is for Angela to get the right treatment so that she can walk without feeling pain and without people staring and passing comments about the appearance of her legs.” Watsi donors, let’s help get Angela get back on her feet feeling comfortable and confident!
