Meet Rakesh! He is 14 and lives in Nepal. Rakesh is in 9th grade and excels in economics and accounting. He loves to play cricket and dreams of one day playing professionally. Rakesh’s father is away working in India and the rest of his family are farmers. Rakesh has been diagnosed with a hernia; a protrusion through the muscle wall in the abdominal cavity. He suffers pain and swelling as a result, and without treatment his condition could cause bowel strangulation and death. The cost of surgery to correct his condition is $1,390. This surgery will relieve Rakesh of this pain and allow him to pursue his dream without the risks of the hernia.

This smiling young man is Kosal, a 26-year-old electrician from Cambodia who was recently married. A year ago, Kosal was in an accident and fractured his hip and pelvis. He sought treatment immediately, and was doing well,. Then he began to suffer from complications that his primary care doctors couldn't address. Now, Kosal feels extreme pain when walking even relatively short distances. His injury healed improperly, and his left leg is now over an inch shorter than his right. Kosal needs surgery on his hip to fuse the bones correctly, and allow him to finally heal, restore mobility and reduce pain. Fortunately, our medical partner in Cambodia can make this happen. $300 is all it will take to fund this corrective surgery, and help this young man get comfortably back on his feet.
