Victor is a five-year-old boy from Kenya. He likes playing with other children and also loves being in school. Although Victor was born a healthy baby boy, he was diagnosed with acquired clubfoot of his left foot about two years ago. This condition means that over time, his left foot began to curve inward until the sole of his foot is no longer able to stand flat on the ground. Because of this, he experiences pain while walking, standing, and playing. Seeking treatment through our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, Victor is scheduled to undergo surgery to correct his clubfoot on July 3. His family is requesting $1,224 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. "My joy is to see my son receive treatment and advance in his studies. The help will be a great blessing to our family. May God bless Watsi for the initiative of helping those who are unable to afford for the surgery,” Victor's mother says.

This is Dharma. Dharma is a 22-year-old farmer in Nepal. She tends a small field with her in-laws to support herself and her husband. Dharma recently fell from a tree while collecting fodder for cattle, which knocked her unconscious, gave her a cut on her face, and fractured her pelvis. Dharma has not been able to walk since the fall and is in a great deal of pain. Unfortunately, the pelvic fracture that Dharma has requires surgery. If the fracture is not repaired, she may have lifelong disability and difficulty standing, walking and working. For $1,040, Dharma will receive surgery to repair her pelvis fracture. Dharma hopes the surgery will get her back on her feet so she can start a family with her husband. Let's help Dharma get the care she needs!

Diego is a lively eight-year-old living in an area in Guatemala that has recently been deeply affected by mudslides. The entire community is currently living in temporary housing with no regular medical care. Diego was born with microtia, or deformed ears. While this does not impact his hearing, it is extremely cosmetically deforming and a source of great embarrassment at his tender age in development. Wuqu’ Kawoq is not charging Diego's family for the procedure to fix his ears. Therefore, they are only asking for $400 from Watsi to cover transportation, lodging, and lab fees. This simple plastic surgery will greatly improve Diego's self-esteem and enable him to move into adolescence with confidence!

Afework is an extremely active 13 year old! Currently in the fourth grade, he is known for being a disciplined student and a hard worker. Afework enjoys helping his father on the family farm, working the fields of corn and teff (the grain used to make injera, the traditional bread of Ethiopia). When he has free time, Afework plays handball and football (soccer) with his friends. A week ago, Afework was running along a rough and rocky road near his home. Suddenly, he tripped and fractured his ankle. The wound became infected, and wasn't healing properly, so his father brought him to our medical partner, Africa Mission Healthcare Foundation. Afework needs an operation to wash out the infection from his wound and set his bones so that they will heal properly and in alignment. Without this operation, he risks losing his leg due to infection or permanent problems with walking due to different leg lengths. Quinter is half-way through her pregnancy and her fourth child is due to be born in the middle of this year. Like so many Kenyans, Quinter and her family are farmers, growing corn and sugar cane to sell for a tiny income to support their family. Quinter has 3 healthy children and she hopes that her fourth baby will be the same way. Quinter is experiencing chronic nausea and abdominal pain associated with her pregnancy and she cannot afford the professional help or medications that could ease her discomfort. For just $215, the Lwala hospital can provide Quinter with pre-natal care, a safe delivery for her baby and post-natal checkups for her and her child.

Radha has a hole in her heart. She was first diagnosed with this condition, known as an atrial septal defect, about nine years ago. At first, she experienced mild symptoms, including shortness of breath and pain while walking. Since then, her symptoms have drastically worsened, and she is now unable to walk even a few steps. Radha was married when she was 16 and has four children. Her husband works in India as a watchman, but he doesn’t earn enough to support their four children. Radha used to work as a mason to help provide for her family and ensure all her kids have the opportunity to go to school, and she is extremely proud that her eldest son finished high school. Radha was recently forced to quit her job, because she can no longer walk. She is responsible for her four children, and she is very worried about what will happen to them if she doesn’t get better. Doctors in Nepal believe that this surgery will alleviate her symptoms and enable her to continue caring for her family. Let’s make it happen!
