This is Srun, a 77-year-old mother of four and grandmother of six from Cambodia. Srun’s vision has gotten blurry over the years due a mature cataract in her eye, and she is in need of surgery so she can see clearly. “She can't see anything clearly, go outside alone, watch TV, or take care of her grandchildren when her children ask her to,” our partners at the Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) tell us. "She relies on her daughter for help, which makes it so that her daughter has to take time off from her job as a teacher." For $150, we can pay for Srun's surgery to remove her cataract. She will be able to see clearly and regain her independence. CSC tells us, "When her surgery is done, she looks forward to helping her daughter clean the house, playing with her grandchildren, going to the pagoda whenever she wants, and watching TV again.”

Meet Angel, a one-year-old girl from the Philippines! According to our medical partner, International Care Ministries (ICM), “Angel is an energetic child who loves to smile to whoever comes across her. She lives with her foster parents, who are farmers, because her mother died during delivery.” Unfortunately, “Angel has a distended abdomen and has difficulty passing out waste. The condition puts her at risk of infection due to lack of anal passage,” explains ICM. For $965, Angel will receive surgery to relieve her abdominal and renal malformations – she will no longer have difficulty passing waste, and will not be at risk of infection. “We are blessed to have this child in our family; we love to take care of her but we cannot afford the surgery needed because of our limited resources. We are humbly requesting your kindness to help us make this surgery possible,” says Angel’s family. Let’s help give her a chance to live a more healthy childhood!

Meet Deonita, a 56-year-old mother of three from the Philippines who likes to sing and play the guitar. She’s recognized in her community as being very talkative and very good at relating to other people, skills she’ll put to use when she begins working full time for her church. For the past five years, Deonita has been experiencing pain on the right side of her abdomen. The pain has been affecting her sleep, and makes it difficult to perform common tasks in her work as a pastor and at home as a mother. After visiting Watsi medical partner International Care Ministries, Deonita was diagnosed with gallstones with hydrops of the gallbladder. A laparoscopic cholecystectomy can greatly improve Deonita’s life according to physicians at International Care Ministries, “she will be free of pain and be able to better perform her duties as a mother and a wife. She will also be able to spend more time and energy servicing her community.” With a monthly household income of about $100 to support five family members, Deonita has been unable to save for the surgery. Deonita shares, “We really need the support of the donors to afford the surgery, and are praying for a good outcome.” For $530, we support the cost of the surgery she needs!

Meet Phin, a 70-year-old man from Cambodia. He has seven children and four grandchildren. Children’s Surgical Centre tells us, “Phin has cataracts in both his eyes which caused his vision to blur three years ago. He is now partially blind and cannot work or help around the house.” Phin tells our medical partner, CSC, that he is sad he cannot see and hopes that the surgery will restore his eyesight. CSC adds, “when his eyesight was better he liked to plant crops and garden around his home.” Help us raise $100 for a small incision cataract surgery in Phin’s left eye. This procedure will help restore his eyesight and prevent the cataracts from progressing into blindness.

Nob has recently struggled to support his family because of his deteriorating eyesight. This 56-year-old man from Cambodia is a father of four and a grandfather of three. Our partner, Children's Surgical Centre, writes: “He developed pterygium in both of his eyes around three months ago due to overexposure to the sun, which caused a painful lesion to develop on his eyes. He is unhappy because he can’t plant crops or help with housework because of his blurred vision and he is in a lot of pain.” For $150, Nob will receive surgery to remove the lesions on his eyes, as well as an auto-graft to the right eye. “I hope the surgery will help improve my eyesight and reduce my pain,” Nob says.

This precious new babe is just two weeks old! His name is Juan and he is the littlest member of a large family in Guatemala. Even though Juan's mom has experience rearing children, nursing Juan has been challenging. Juan is underweight and experiencing jaundice. Without treatment, Juan could have permanent neurological damage. Juan needs a brief course of supplemental formula to help "wash out" the jaundice and put on some healthy weight. For $100, Juan will receive the nutrition he needs. After his treatment, Juan's mom will be able to get back to nursing him like a champ.

Mercy is a university student studying mass communication at the University of Jos, Nigeria. She loves reading, writing, and singing, and dreams of making a positive difference in the world. For many years, Mercy has battled sickle cell anemia, a disease that causes episodes of severe pain, fatigue, rapid heart rate, and shortness of breath. Her condition has been well managed by low-cost care from Faith Alive Foundation, but she is now dealing with another issue. Mercy is suffering from osteomyelitis, a condition that causes a deformity of her left knee, excruciating pain, and inability to walk. She needs surgery to remove dead pieces of bones from her leg and enable her to live normally again, but she cannot afford the $1,000 procedure. We hope to cover the cost for Faith Alive to provide Mercy with the care she needs to return to school and continue on a path towards a happy, successful life.
