Gladys is a 6-year-old girl with severe burns on half of her body. After four months, her burns are finally beginning to heal, but a post-burn scar contracture on her hip is restricting her movement and preventing her from walking normally. Fortunately, surgeons at CURE Malawi can operate on Gladys to release her hip contracture and enable her to walk normally again. Gladys is a remarkable little girl who remains positive in spite of adversity. Her doctors say “she lights up the ward with her smile” and “her spirit is amazing.” We look forward to the CURE surgeons restoring Gladys’ ability to walk and giving her the opportunity to live a happy, healthy life.

Kennedy is a 14-year-old boy with a leg deformity. Because of his condition, Kennedy experiences severe pain and discomfort when he walks. Without treatment, he will be unable to live a normal, active life. Fortunately, doctors at CURE can perform surgery to loosen the contracted tendon in Kennedy’s leg. They say they are confident that this procedure will “reverse the unfortunate event that has haunted him and made him different from all his friends.” Kennedy is your typical teenaged boy – he likes school but is crazy about sports. He cannot wait for the day he is able to join the rest of the boys on the soccer team and keep up. We’re excited to fund his treatment and make it happen!

Sila is an 8-year-old girl with a foot deformity that makes it impossible to flex her foot or walk. If left untreated, Sila will be unable to walk for the rest of her life. Luckily, doctors at CURE in Kenya can perform a surgical procedure to lengthen Sila’s abnormally rigid tendons. They’re confident that after this procedure, Sila will be able to use her foot with a full range of motion. Sila came to the CURE Hospital with her parents and has stuck close to her family throughout this experience. Her doctors say she’s very quiet and shy, although they managed to get her to smile for a picture. They say this procedure will “make a world of difference” for her, and they are glad she has the opportunity to receive treatment.
