Chan Rouen is a four-month old living in rural Cambodia. She was born with a condition called meningoencephalocele, which has caused disfigurement in her face and puts her at constant risk for meningitis and brain hemorrhages. The only treatment for her condition is surgery. Her mother is very worried about Chan Rouen. She heard about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, from someone in her village and hopes her daughter can receive the surgery. For $450, Chan Rouen will receive surgery that will treat her meningoencephalocele and allow her to grow up healthy and strong alongside her three siblings.

Samnang is ten years old and lives in Cambodia with her mother and younger brother. She helps take care of her younger brother at home, but more than anything Samnang enjoys going to school. For years Samnang has had difficulty swallowing, making eating and drinking painful for her. She also has trouble breathing, especially at night, leaving her fatigued. A trip to the doctor revealed Samnang's tonsils are growing and if not stopped, could reach a dangerous size. If untreated breathing difficulties will become much more severe for Samnang. For $225 Samnang can have her tonsils removed. The procedure will elimnate pain and allow Samnang to get a full night's rest so she can happily return to focusing on 5th grade.

Makara and his mother traveled for two hours to be seen at Children's Surgical Centre in Phnom Penh. Maraka was born with ptosis, a disorder of the muscles that hold up the eyelid. Untreated, ptosis causes trouble with field of vision, headaches, and fatigue. It's important to correct this condition quickly so Makara can live a healthy and unimpaired life. Makara's parents work hard; his mother as a cook and his father as a driver. We hope to help them cover the cost of their son's $250 treatment so they can watch him grow into a normal, happy toddler!
