Pisey is a nine-year-old student. She has one sister and two brothers. Three years ago, Pisey had a severe ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her left ear to perforate. For this reason, Pisey experiences pain, hearing loss, and ear discharge. She cannot communicate clearly with others and she is in chronic pain. Pisey traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On October 26th, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $464 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Pisey says, "I really hope my pain will go away and I can hear and feel better at school."

Angellah is a 24-year-old student at university studying clinical medicine because she is passionate about helping the sick. She is the third born child in a family of five children, including three brothers and one sister. Two of her brothers are still in school and one works as a farmer. Her sister is studying towards a certificate in nursing and her parents work as farmers. Six months ago, Angellah started experiencing backaches and abdominal discomfort. She could feel a mass on the left side of her abdomen. She took painkillers and tried local herbs, but her condition did not improve. Finally, she had a scan done and was diagnosed with a left adnexal cystic mass. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Angellah receive treatment. On September 16th, she will undergo a cystectomy at AMH's care center. Now, she needs help raising $220 to cover the cost of her procedure and care. Angellah shared, "I hope this pain will surely go and I will get healed after surgery so that I continue well with my studies."

Khamso, a four-month-old boy from Kenya, is “the last-born in a family of two children,” says our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). “Khamso’s father works as a casual laborer and Khamso's mother sells fried potatoes by the roadside to supplement her husband’s income.” When Khamso was born, doctors initially suspected that he might have hydrocephalus, as his head appeared enlarged. "They ordered a CT scan to verify the diagnosis, and that is when they realized that Khamso has a brain tumor,” says AMHF. “The tumor has affected the drainage of excess CSF fluid from the brain causing hydrocephalus.” As a result, AMHF shares that “Khamso has high fevers, poor feeding and vomits frequently.” “If the surgery is not done soon, the increased intra-cranial pressure could result in brain damage and/or death,” AMHF explains. “Khamso is also at risk of becoming visually impaired and suffering dehydration due to the recurrent vomiting.” $1260 will fund a craniotomy -- a procedure that will open the skull to remove the tumor. The treatment cost also covers Khamso's ten day hospital stay. This treatment will minimize Khamso's risk of visual impairment and increased intra-cranial pressure, allowing him to grow up pain-free. “I wish my son quick recovery, I know God has everything aligned out for him,” shares Khamso’s mother.

Meet Emmanuel, a lively and talkative eight-year-old boy from Tanzania. "While at home, he helps his mother fetch water, collect firewood and take care of a small garden outside their house," shares our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). Emmanuel has bilateral clubfoot, a congenital deformity of the feet which severely affects his gait. This has caused both physical pain and difficulty at school with peers teasing him. Still, he enjoys going to school. "He likes to read and write," says AMHF. For $1,660, Emmanuel will receive a combination of casting and surgery to help him walk normally. Funding also provides for his complete stay in both the hospital and Plaster House, a rehabilitation facility that specializes in postoperative care for children. With treatment, Emmanuel will be able to walk correctly, wear shoes, and have a lesser risk of developing osteoarthritis. “I want to be able to walk properly and wear shoes so that no one will laugh at me when I go to school," Emmanuel shares.
