Meet Rim, a 52-year-old man from Cambodia. According to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), “Rim is married with two sons, three daughters, and two grandchildren...He enjoys watching boxing on TV.“
CSC informs us, “Rim developed a cataract in each eye 3 years ago. This causes him blurred vision, tearing, irritation, and cloudy lenses. He can't see anything clearly, do work well, or go anywhere outside on his own.”
Rim’s vision will only get worse without treatment, preventing him from continuing his work as a rice farmer.
Rim’s condition can be treated with cataract removal surgery. During surgery, his cloudy lenses will be removed and replaced with clear prosthetic lenses. CSC expects Rim to “be able to see everything clearly” after the operation.
Surgery will cost $225, which covers medical and surgical expenses, as well as a two day stay in the hospital and a follow-up visit with an eye doctor.
