Say hi to Davenly, a two-year-old boy from Haiti! According to our medical partner, Project Medishare, “Davenly’s mother has four kids and is living with her husband, who is a small farmer living in the countryside. Davenly’s mother is a seller and she works hard with her husband to subsist the needs of her kids.” Unfortunately, Davenly deals with cleft palate; “due to the cleft palate, he is unable to eat well and when he eats, some of the food is stuck in the hole of the cleft palate,” explains Project Medishare. Without treatment, Davenly will continue to deal with poor nutrition. For $960, Davenly will receive surgery to repair his palate. After his surgery, Davenly will be able to eat and drink without discomfort, and receive the nutrition he needs. Let’s help Davenly live a healthy childhood!

"I just want to have the surgery and get this whole thing behind me so that I can not be worried all the time," Maria tells her doctors at our medical partner, Wuqu' Kawoq (WK). Maria is mother to one child and usually helps her husband selling items in the market to support their family. She has a growing mass on one breast which is both painful and a cause for great concern right now, especially since she has had family members who have had breast cancer. "She needs a biopsy of the mass to rule out the possiblity of breast cancer," WK tells us. With $310 the WK team can make this happen for Maria. "The mass will be removed," they tell us. "This should greatly relieve the discomfort that Maria feels. Also we will do pathology studies on the mass to make sure it is benign. This will help rule out cancer and allow Maria to get back to her life without worrying about this possibility." Maria is in great hands with the WK team. “My family is barely having two meals a day,” explains Solomon, a 30-year-old husband and father from Kenya. “I want to get well soon so that I can support my family again." Solomon worked at a bus station, and was helping a passenger unload their baggage six months ago when a motorbike lost control and crashed into him, breaking both of his legs. Solomon’s wife works as a green grocer, providing the only source of income for the family since Solomon's accident. Eager to get back to work, Solomon sought treatment, but the external fixation used is infected where the pins enter his leg. “Solomon is not able to walk without support, and he is experiencing pain and swelling,” note our medical partners at African Mission Healthcare Foundation. “Solomon needs to have the external fixation device and antibiotic spacers removed, then a debridement followed by a bone transport. If surgery is not done, Solomon's leg could become severely infected, and would require amputation.” For $1,500, we can provide Solomon with the treatment required to heal his fracture, fight the infection and prevent amputation. Meet five-year-old Isaya from Tanzania! “Isaya is a polite, five-year-old boy,” our medical partner African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF) tells us. “He is the second born in his family. Isaya has not yet started school, but he enjoys coloring some pictures and scribbling on a piece of paper with his left hand. He also likes to run around with other children.” Isaya cannot color with his right hand because he has a burn scar contracture on his right wrist, a condition that happens when a serious burn causes the affected skin to tighten, restricting movement. AMHF says, “Isaya uses his right hand with difficulty because his wrist cannot move at all. Isaya’s daily activities will be impaired if not treated.” A $550 treatment will reverse the damage from Isaya’s burn and release the skin so he’s able to have a full range of motion. “We really hope that Isaya will be able to use his hand again like before so that he doesn’t become dependent on other people,” Isaya’s parents say. “Hugo is a highly motivated man who dreams of getting back to his old life, being able to work, hang out with his friends and family without stigma or shame, and being able to be independent,” our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, shares. Hugo, a 45-year-old man from Guatemala, has a bilateral arm amputation. In January, he lost both arms in a severe electrocution accident, which has made him unable to continue working and unable to care for himself. For $1255, Hugo can receive two prosthetic arms so he can regain his independence. He tells us, “this injury was the worst thing that has ever happened to me, but I’m happy to be alive, and I’m excited to have prosthetic arms and get back to work.” Let’s help him out!

Meet Emmaculate. She's 22-years-old, a wife, and a loving and caring mother to three children. Emmaculate's husband works as a laborer to support the family while Emmaculate spends her time taking care of household duties and listening to advice from her elders. "Emmaculate says she feels the fetus moves and kicks her belly after walking for a while," our medical partner, Lwala Community Alliance, tells us about her current pregnancy. "She is expecting her fourth child and hoping for a baby girl so that she can have two boys and two girls..." As she prepares for her baby's future, the first thing on Emmaculate's mind is to ensure a safe delivery for her newborn in a health facility. "After a successful delivery, I will sell some of my farm produce to start a small business and ensure that my children are provided with the basic needs," she says. With $290, we can provide Emmaculate prenatal care, a safe delivery in a hospital, and a postnatal care after her baby is born.

Dayana has just made a full recovery from cancer! She had a cancerous growth in her left leg, which required amputation. Although she has beaten cancer, without a leg, she moves slowly on crutches and is embarrassed at school. Our medical partner, Wuqu Kawoq’, writes, “Dayana's family is so happy that she's beaten her cancer. However, they would now like to see her walk independently again. Unfortunately, prosthetics are very expensive and difficult to obtain in Guatemala, and they don't have the connections or the funds to make it happen.” For $1,255, Dayana will receive a molded leg prosthetic, which will improve her mobility, her independence, and her higher self-esteem. Let’s give Dayana this prosthetic so she can focus on her education rather than the other kids teasing her!

John is 38 and lives in Kenya. Last year, he was assaulted with a machete, and his right arm was seriously injured. He has had two surgeries but is still not able to move his right hand due to extensive tendon and nerve damage. John was married for four years, but after his injury he was no longer able to provide for his wife, so she left. John now lives with his parents, who are small scale farmers. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, tells us, "John feels saddened that he is forced to depend on his elderly parents instead of him supporting them." John adds, "I want to get well and be able to work again." Before his injury, he had a job at the local bus terminus. John needs $1500 for a surgery that the doctors say will restore the use of his right hand. Let's get John the care he needs to recover fully from his assault.
