Kazahura is a 67-year-old woman and mom-of-seven. Her husband passed away and she works as a farmer to support their family. She has had many troubling health symptoms over the past year, including general body fatigue, backache, and lower abdominal pain, which impacts her ability to keep farming. Kazahura has never been to the hospital due to limited finances. She was urged to visit Watsi's Medical Partner Care Center Nyakibale Hospital. Upon her visit, she was reviewed by the gynaecologist and diagnosed with uterine prolapse. Doctors recommend she have a transvaginal hysterectomy and now Kazahura needs help raising $243 for her treatment. Kazahura says: “My only prayer is that you support me financially for my surgery and, once that is covered, I hope the rest will be fine. I will continue with my farming.”

Dachena is a student from Haiti. She lives with her parents, grandparents, and siblings in a neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. She likes going to school and singing in her church choir. Dachena has a cardiac condition called rheumatic mitral regurgitation. One of the four valves of her heart was severely damaged by a rheumatic fever she suffered in childhood, and can no longer adequately pump blood through her body. Dachena will fly to the Dominican Republic to receive treatment. On October 29th, she will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will attempt to repair her valve; if they are unable to do so, they will implant an artificial replacement. Another organization, The Mitral Foundation, is contributing $7500 to pay for surgery. Dachena's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, and checkup and followup appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Dachena's family overseas. Dachena said, "I hope that after surgery I will have more energy to do the things I enjoy!"

Nafthali is a laborer from Kenya. He has four sons. Nafthali was injured in early April. He sustained fractures in both legs, and he is not able to walk. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On April 18, Nafthali will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will help him walk easily again. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $968 to fund this procedure. He says, "I am humbly requesting for assistance to cover my surgeries so that I can be able to provide for my children.”

“I want my child to grow up knowing his mama loves him and found him treatment when he was a baby,” Gershomu’s mother shares. Meet Gershomu, an adorable seven-month-old son and third born child to his young parents. He and his family live in rural Tanzania. “Gershomu was born with club feet,” reports our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). “As he grows and starts to walk, he will develop a stilted gait and not be able to wear normal shoes.” In the hopes of finding treatment for their son’s condition, Gershomu’s parents used their savings to travel to various hospitals until they arrived at a Watsi partner. The treatment Gershomu seeks will adjust the tightened tendons and ligaments causing the uncomfortable club feet. “We expect a great outcome for Gershomu as we are able to start his treatment when he is so young,” AMHF continues. “We expect that he will grow and develop with no idea he was born with a disability.” Together, for $1160, we can help Gershomu's mother cover the cost of this life-changing operation and allow him to return back home with his family!
