"Mary moved from her rural home of Muranga to Nairobi to seek a better life," shares our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). "Mary now earns her living by selling vegetables in the market. She has three children who depend on her. Whatever Mary makes, it is only enough to meet the family's basic needs." 48-year-old Mary was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer. After experiencing irregular bleeding and discharge, she went to the hospital to seek care, but "she could not meet the cost of this treatment," says AMHF. Mary was referred to Watsi -- and fortunately, we can help. For $790, Mary will receive a total abdominal hysterectomy to remove her uterus and cervix, and treat the cancer. "We expect after treatment, the cancer spread will be halted. Mary can be well again to care for her children," adds AMHF.

Emmanuel is a hardworking man from Kenya. He used to own his own hotel next to a busy bus stop in Nairobi. He had a good relationship with his girlfriend, and he enjoyed a normal, healthy life. All that has been put on pause by an injury. A trolley hit Emmanuel while he was at work and deeply cut his leg. His leg now has an ulcer on it which, if it's not treated, will get worse and could turn into a bone infection. Emmanuel loves the hotel business. He says he longs to re-open his hotel, get it running, and marry his girlfriend. For $900, we can cover the cost of Emmanuel's wound debridement and skin graft surgery, alleviating his pain and enabling him to live a normal and productive life.

Susan, a widowed mother of three, makes her living doing casual jobs like washing clothes for her neighbors. She has been raising her children alone since the death of her husband. Susan was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer - causing lower abdominal pain and weight loss that has changed her life. She is no longer able to serve in her church or continue working. She needs a total abdominal hysterectomy to recover from this cancer, which will cost $750.00.
