"Mary moved from her rural home of Muranga to Nairobi to seek a better life," shares our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). "Mary now earns her living by selling vegetables in the market. She has three children who depend on her. Whatever Mary makes, it is only enough to meet the family's basic needs."
48-year-old Mary was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer. After experiencing irregular bleeding and discharge, she went to the hospital to seek care, but "she could not meet the cost of this treatment," says AMHF.
Mary was referred to Watsi -- and fortunately, we can help. For $790, Mary will receive a total abdominal hysterectomy to remove her uterus and cervix, and treat the cancer.
"We expect after treatment, the cancer spread will be halted. Mary can be well again to care for her children," adds AMHF.
