“I want to marry and have children soon. I want to be able to work so that I will be able to support my future family,” says Festus. Meet Festus, a 40-year-old man from Kenya who has a fractured right femur, the leg bone located above the knee. “Last week, Festus was harvesting Macadamia when he lost his footing and fell from the tree,” reports our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). “Festus is in pain and cannot walk nor sit without support. He is not able to work on his farm. If the surgery is not done soon, Festus may require more complex treatment such as a total hip replacement. He will also not be able to work on his farm nor walk again if not treated.” Festus is the oldest son in a family of five. “Festus is not married but has a fiancée,” continues AMHF. “Festus lives on a part of the family land that his father gave him and he farms bananas and vegetables on the land to support himself. He also takes care of his parents farm for them." For $1115, we can fund an Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) procedure to heal his broken leg and ensure that he is able to walk properly. AMHF concludes, “We expect that after the surgery and recovery, Festus will be able to fulfill his dream and have a family that he can support by working on his farm.”

Say hi to Jusmy, a three-year-old boy from Haiti! Jusmy’s father says, “I have five kids and I am a small farmer. I work the fields to respond to the needs of my family but it is not enough. I am also a Macon laborer and I do random jobs, but from my locality in the countryside to find a job is very difficult.” Jusmy has a cleft lip, which makes it difficult for him to eat and speak. “I cannot pay for the surgery because it surpasses my means and I could not find the money. I’ve been waiting for so long to find help and I am excited to see how my son is going to be after the surgery,” explains his father. For $960, Jusmy will receive the surgery required to repair his cleft lip. “Today is a very big day for me to be a beneficiary of the program; you cannot imagine how happy I feel,” says his father. "He has been chronically ill for the last several months and he is not growing. He is underweight, but he is especially under-height." “I hope that my daughter will be able to walk properly and without feeling pain,” shares the father of this beautiful young lady, Nuru. “I want her to be able to walk to school, study hard and later on have a good career and live a better life than ours.” Nuru is a three-year-old who lives in Tanzania with her parents and siblings. Nuru’s mother takes care of her and her siblings while her father supports the family as a self-employed auto mechanic. Due to the fluctuations in demand for her father’s services, Nuru’s family has not been able to afford corrective surgery for Nuru’s legs. “Nuru’s gait has been affected due to bilateral genu valgus, or ‘knock knee,’” explain our medical partners at African Mission Healthcare Foundation. “She walks with difficulties and she sometimes complains of pain on her legs while walking. If not treated, Nuru will be at risk of developing early osteoarthritis.
