Abdulahab is a baby from Kenya. He is the only child to his young parents. His mother is a full-time mom, while his father sells small household items at his shop. Abdulahab was born with an anorectal malformation, a congenital abnormality that leads to a complete or partial intestinal blockage. He needs to undergo a series of procedures to eliminate bowel dysfunction. Abdulahab is scheduled to undergo surgery to correct his condition on September 10. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,327 to cover the total cost of Abdulahab's procedure and care. After his recovery, Abdulahab will no longer experience bowel dysfunction or be at risk of developing health complications in the future.

Aung is a 13-month-old boy from Burma. He lives with his parents, his 13-year-old sister, and 8-year-old brother in Myawaddy, Karen State. Since he was born, Aung has had an inguinal hernia. Aung’s hernia is gradually increasing in size. Fortunately, on June 12, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at Mae Sot General Hospital, our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund Aung's hernia repair surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on June 12 and, once completed, will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably. “We would like our son to finish school and become an educated man,” says Aung’s father.

Hilda is a baby from Tanzania. She is the first-born child in her small growing family. Hilda’s father works in a garage, and her mother is a stay-at-home mother. Since she was three months old, Hilda has been experiencing trouble breathing and has had frequent sleep apnea. Frequent illness has caused her parents to spend a lot of their time and money in hospitals. She was recently diagnosed with enlarged adenoids, which are the soft tissue behind the nasal cavity. Without treatment, this condition will cause Hilda's symptoms to persist and possibly even intensify. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $609 to fund an adenoidectomy for Hilda, which is scheduled to take place on May 3. Surgeons will remove her adenoids, hopefully relieving Hilda of her symptoms and helping her live more comfortably. Hilda’s mother says, “Please help my daughter get this treatment so that she is able to eat, breathe, and sleep.”

Rebecca is a baker and a singer mother of one child. She has two siblings. Rebecca was a healthy woman until three years ago, when she developed chronic ulcer secondary peripheral vascular disease on her right leg. She underwent an amputation, lost her job, and was left struggling to provide for her teenage son and to feed her family. Rebecca eventually managed to start a small bakery business at home. Unfortunately, she recently developed the same condition on her left leg. She can no longer work and needs treatment. Rebecca is scheduled to undergo a left leg amputation on May 15. Now, she needs help raising $1,035 to fund this procedure. Rebecca says, “Thank you for helping me getting this treatment, it has been a difficult life changing journey for me and my son. At some point we had lost hope, but God has made a way through everyone contributing, praying for me and assisting me in one way or the other. I am so grateful.”

Pav is a barber from Cambodia. He has four brothers. He enjoys watching Chinese films. Four months ago, Pav was in a motor vehicle accident that left his left shoulder and arm immobile. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his left side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He is unable to move his left arm and shoulder. Pav traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On June 1, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he will be able to use his arm again. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $637 to fund this procedure. He says, "I hope my surgery is successful and I hope to regain function in my arm."

Oliver is a student from Haiti. He lives with his parents and siblings in a neighborhood in Port-au-Prince. He is in the first grade and enjoys going to school. Oliver has a cardiac condition called pulmonary atresia. He was born with one of the four valves of the heart missing. Sometimes a surgery can be done to correct this condition, but the only way to know this is by doing a cardiac catheterization. To determine if Oliver's condition is operable, he must undergo a diagnostic cardiac catheterization, a procedure that is not available in Haiti. During the procedure, a catheter probe will be inserted into his heart to perform the necessary measurements and tests. On May 24, he will travel to the Dominican Republic to receive the scan at our medical partner's care center, Clinica Corominas. Our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, is asking for $1,500 to cover the costs of Oliver's travel expenses, catheterization procedure, and lab work. His father says, "Our family is very happy to have this chance, and we are hopeful that Oliver's heart will be able to be fixed."

Neath is a six-year-old girl from Cambodia. She has two brothers and a sister. She likes to drink coconut water and play with her friends outside. Two years ago, she was burned by hot water when playing with her brother. Burn scar contractures have developed, tightening the skin around her burn. When Neath learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On June 5, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery. Now, her family needs help to fund this $448 procedure. Her mother says, "I hope my daughter's surgery is successful and she can start school soon."

Beatrice is a baby from Kenya. Her mother is a full-time mom, while her father works on construction sites. Beatrice is the youngest of three children. Beatrice was born with spina bifida, a type of neural tube defect in which the spine does not properly close around the spinal cord. Without treatment, Beatrice is at risk of lower-limb paralysis, infection of the exposed nervous tissue, development of tethered cord syndrome, and possible developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,097 to cover the cost of Beatrice's spina bifida closure surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on June 21. This procedure will hopefully spare Beatrice from the risks associated with her condition, instead allowing her to grow and develop along a healthy trajectory. “If I had financial ability I would have come in earlier,” shares Beatrice’s mother.

Ahumuza is a baby from Uganda. All his siblings are in primary school. Ahumuza loves eating rice with groundnuts and drinking milk. His father is a taxi driver, and his mother is a farmer. Since birth, Ahumuza has had an inguinal hernia. This hernia is increasing in size and causing him to vomit after meals. Fortunately, on May 9, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund Ahumuza's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably. His father says, "I am worried about my son’s condition and the doctor said he will only benefit from surgery. We as parents are unable to pay for it. We need help from Watsi."
