Vutha is a 21-month-old boy from Cambodia. He enjoys playing with his two older brothers, watching cartoons on television, and going to the market with his mother. When Vutha was eleven months old, he accidentally came into contact with fire and burned his right hand. He is unable to open his hands and flex them properly, and cannot hold onto anything. When Vutha's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, they traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On December 23rd, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to to help him use hand again. Now, he needs help to fund this $448 procedure. Sakaiyan is a five-year-old girl from Kenya. She is playful but often reserved because she has an abnormal condition in a sensitive area. Sakaiyan's parents can't afford the surgeries required to treat their daughter's condition. Earlier this year, the family was referred to Watsi. In March, Sakaiyan received a colostomy. Doctors recommended she return in July for an anorectalplasty and colostomy closure. If left untreated, Sakaiyan will experience bowel dysfunction. On July 13, Sakaiyan will receive the operation she needs to complete her treatment. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,327 to fund the surgery. Sakaiyan’s father is grateful for the support. He says, “I want to see my daughter healthy so that she can lead a normal life like other children."

Meet Angela! This newborn baby girl and her twin brother were born in Guatemala. Angela and her brother were born several months early and spent their first few months in intensive care at a local hospital. Angela’s time away from her mother prevented the development of a breastfeeding routine, and Angela’s health has suffered as result. Angela is only able to eat dilute cereal and sugared water, an unhealthy diet which has caused her to be underweight and developmentally delayed. The financial burden of feeding two babies lead Angela’s father to abandon the family leaving her mother to care for the young twins on her own. Angela’s mother tells the staff at Wuqu’ Kawoq she “feels all alone, and not sure where to turn to.” Fortunately, Wuqu’ Kawoq has a program especially for children like Angela, and for $1,220 we can make sure Angela can afford the nutritional therapy she needs to get back on track with her development.

Catherine is pregnant and hoping to give birth in a medical setting with a doctor nearby. "I am excited with the child I am expecting," Catherine says, because he or she has the chance to be "the first child I am going to deliver in a health facility." Recently, Catherine has experienced pain in her abdominal region. She also gets severe headaches which sometimes last for hours. To make sure she gives birth safely, Catherine needs a delivery attended by a medical team. For $215, we can cover the cost of Catherine's safe birth and make sure she has access to healthcare during and after she delivers her child.
