Pisal is a 25-year-old electrician from Cambodia. Pisal married his wife four months ago and they are now expecting their first child together. His wife works in a factory. Pisal enjoys playing football, exercising, listening to music, and helping his family with cooking and cleaning. In September 2020, Pisal was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a closed fracture of his left forearm. First he sought treatment at a Khmer traditional healer who provided a bamboo sling. This treatment was not successful and he is still in pain. He experiences pain and swelling, and it is still very difficult for him to use his left arm. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On October 14th, Pisal will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $465. This procedure will heal his fracture and allow him to use left arm again without pain. Pisal said, "I hope after surgery my left arm is back to normal so I can get back to work and prepare for my child to be born."

Lucy is a small business operator from Kenya. She is a single lady and has two children who are in school. Lucy does small business of selling cereals to support her family. Four years ago, Lucy began to experience troubling symptoms, including sore throat and a bit of wheezing. She was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Lucy receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on December 02 at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $625, and she and her family need help raising money. “This condition is making it difficult for me to serve my customers to get money for my family. I plead for help so that I can be treated and be able to earn for my children,” said Lucy.

Sem is a 52-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She likes to listen to the news and the monks pray on the radio in her spare time. Two years ago, Sem developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Sem learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On October 03, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. Sem said, "I hope I can see clearly again so I can go back to planting rice and can help with the housework."

U Min is a 49-year-old man from Burma. He lives with his wife, son, and daughter. He and his son work as day laborers. His wife stays home to look after household chores, while his daughter studies in grade school. About a month ago, U Min's right heel was injured while he was getting off from the tractor he was driving at work. It was very painful that he went to a clinic in his village to receive treatment. However, his condition did not improved with the treatment, and the wound worsened day by day. He was then advised by the health workers at his village to go to Mawlamyine Christian Leprosy Hospital (MCLH) for further treatment. At MCLH, the doctor did detail assessment of U Min's condition and said that because of his injury, the blood supply to his heel was insufficient. His wound by then has turned into black color, as the tissues around his heel were damaged and have died, and it causes him severe pain, especially at night. Since the doctor could no longer help to make his ulcer healed by treatments, the only option is to do a below knee amputation. U Min said, "It's so painful that I can't bear it anymore. I just want to receive surgery as soon as possible."

Dachena is a student from Haiti. She lives with her parents, grandparents, and siblings in a neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. She likes going to school and singing in her church choir. Dachena has a cardiac condition called rheumatic mitral regurgitation. One of the four valves of her heart was severely damaged by a rheumatic fever she suffered in childhood, and can no longer adequately pump blood through her body. Dachena will fly to the Dominican Republic to receive treatment. On October 29th, she will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will attempt to repair her valve; if they are unable to do so, they will implant an artificial replacement. Another organization, The Mitral Foundation, is contributing $7500 to pay for surgery. Dachena's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, and checkup and followup appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Dachena's family overseas. Dachena said, "I hope that after surgery I will have more energy to do the things I enjoy!"

Natukunda is a primary school teacher from Uganda. She is married with nine children. Natukunda has had a swelling on her head for two years. This causes her discomfort and disfigurement and if not treated, the mass will increase in size. Natukunda traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On November 20, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Natukunda needs help to raise $187 to fund this procedure. Natukunda says, “I will have a better life after surgery and continue with teaching when my mind is at peace.”

Kranh is a rice farmer from Cambodia. He has four sons, three daughters, and six grandchildren. He likes to watch the news in his free time. A year ago, Kranh developed a pterygium in his right eye, causing him irritation, burning, and itchiness. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is exposed to excessive sun damage and the cells grow abnormally over the pupil. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside. When Kranh learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for two hours seeking treatment. Kranh needs a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the cornea surface and replace it with a conjunctival graft to prevent recurrence. The total cost of his procedure is $201. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care for two days. The procedure is scheduled for December 17. His wife says, "I hope my husband's eye surgery goes well so he will feel better and so he can return to work soon."

Chin is a father of seven from Cambodia. He is a rice farmer. He has three sons and four daughters. He likes to listen to social programs and monks pray on the radio. One year ago, Chin developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Chin learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On June 5, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $211 procedure. He says, "I hope my surgery is successful so that I can do my work at home, spend time with family, and go to the pagoda independently."

Saturday is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. He is married and a father of four adult children. His two daughters are married, while his sons are self-employed. Saturday and his wife practice farming to meet their basic needs. For six years, Saturday has had a growing mass on his right shoulder. It is painful and has affected his ability to work on his farm. Saturday traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On April 5, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Saturday needs help to raise $187 to fund this procedure. Saturday says, “I hope to get better after surgery and I continue with cultivation.”

Feruzi is a mechanic from Uganda. He is a father of eight. Since 2015, Feruzi has had a right inguinal hernia. He is in pain and cannot do heavy work. Fortunately, on April 18, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. After surgery, he hopes to have peace of mind and resume working normally. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund Feruzi's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably. Feruzi says, "After surgery I will continue with my mechanical work as it’s the one I can do best.’’

Chhoeun is a rice farmer from Cambodia. He has two sons, three daughters, and three grandchildren. He enjoys listening to monks pray on the radio. Four years ago, Chhoeun developed a cataract in each eye, causing him eye strain, photophobia, and blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Chhoeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On March 13, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $398 procedure. He says, "I want to continue to plant rice to support my family."

Phon is an artisan from Cambodia. She has three sons, four daughters, and ten grandchildren. She likes to watch Thai films and listen to monks praying on the radio. One year ago, Phon developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her tearing and blurred vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Phon learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On March 16, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. She says, "I hope my vision improves so I can return to work to support my family."
