Vanna is a two-year-old boy from Cambodia. He likes to play with toy cars at home. Vanna has ptosis in both eyes. Ptosis occurs when the eyelid droops over the eye. He has difficulty seeing clearly. Vanna traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On August 9, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will perform an eyelid correction procedure to improve his vision. Now, Vanna needs help to raise $292 to fund this procedure. His mother says, "I worry about my son and I want his eyelids to look normal so that he can easily see well."

Yasin is a baby from Tanzania. He is an only child to his young parents. Yasin was diagnosed with bilateral genu varus. His legs are bowed outward. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. As a result, he has difficulty walking. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $940 to fund corrective surgery for Yasin. The procedure is scheduled to take place on September 6. Treatment will hopefully restore Yasin's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. Yasin’s mother says, “Thank you very much you have brought hope to us."

Paul is a baby from Tanzania. He is the first child to his young parents. Paul's parents practice small-scale farming in order to meet their basic needs. Paul has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Paul has been experiencing an increasing head circumference. Without treatment, Paul will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,238 to cover the cost of surgery for Paul that will treat his hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on September 7 and will drain the excess fluid from Paul's brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Paul will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. Paul’s mother says, “Please help us.”

Joshua is a baby from Tanzania. He is the youngest in a family of three kids. Unfortunately, Joshua’s father died when his mother was seven months pregnant with him. His mother has no savings and works as a farmer to support her children. Joshua has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Joshua has been experiencing vomiting and regular fevers. Without treatment, Joshua will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,238 to cover the cost of surgery for Joshua that will treat his hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on August 17 and will drain the excess fluid from Joshua's brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Joshua will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. Joshua’s mother says, “Please help my son.”

Myint is a woman from Burma. She lives with her husband and two children. Her husband is a motorcycle taxi driver, while Myint takes care of her children. Myint was diagnosed with a heart condition that involves a malformation of the mitral valve, the valve between the left atrium and left ventricle. This valve controls the flow of blood, but certain conditions may cause blood to flow backward or the valve to narrow. Currently, Myint has difficulty breathing and no appetite. She is always tired and has pain under her lower ribs. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund a mitral valve replacement for Myint. The treatment is scheduled to take place on September 2 and, once completed, will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably.

Nyakairu is a 40-year-old woman from Uganda. She is a mother of three. She owns a retail shop, and her husband is a taxi driver. Nyakairu's three children were all delivered via C-section. She is now pregnant with a fourth child and has been advised to undergo another C-section. She cannot afford the procedure on her own, so she visited our medical partner's care center in search of help. Nyakairu's expected delivery date is April 24. She needs help to fund this $280 procedure. After surgery, she looks forward to resuming work and raising her new baby. Nyakairu says, "After surgery, I will continue with my retail shop as well as taking care of my family."
