Say hi to Davenly, a two-year-old boy from Haiti! According to our medical partner, Project Medishare, “Davenly’s mother has four kids and is living with her husband, who is a small farmer living in the countryside. Davenly’s mother is a seller and she works hard with her husband to subsist the needs of her kids.” Unfortunately, Davenly deals with cleft palate; “due to the cleft palate, he is unable to eat well and when he eats, some of the food is stuck in the hole of the cleft palate,” explains Project Medishare. Without treatment, Davenly will continue to deal with poor nutrition. For $960, Davenly will receive surgery to repair his palate. Julia is a 43-year-old woman from Kenya who is dealing with a painful case of uterine fibroids. Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths on the uterus which cause severe abdominal pain, prolonged menstruation, and anemia. "If not treated, the fibroids will continue to grow," our medical partners at African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF) explain, "increasing the swelling of Julia's lower abdomen causing her discomfort and pain and this growth will also affect other body organs." Julia is a widow with two children and she works as a casual laborer to provide for her family and cover their basic needs. However, Julia has been suffering from this condition for two years now, and her condition is growing worse. “My husband, who was the bread winner, died. I have been doing my best to at least feed my family and take our children to school. However, this sickness is hindering me from that responsibility. I pray that I get well soon so that my children will not suffer,” says Julia. With your support, treatment is just around the corner for Julia. She needs a total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH), which AMHF is prepared to perform for her. "We expect after a TAH, Julia will be relieved from the pain and swelling. She will recover fully and be able to work and raise her children,” shares our partner. Let's do it!

Meet Marlange, a sweet and gentle five-month-old baby girl from Haiti! According to our medical partner, Project Medishare (PM), "Marlange is from a family of three kids, her mother has no husband and is living with her family." Her mother sells raw food products in the street to support her children as she doesn't have anybody else to help her. The other family members “are small farmers and they all live in the countryside," explains PM. Unfortunately, Marlange has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, an ailment where excess fluid creates pressure in the head. As a result, Marlange has to deal with abnormal growth of her head, vomiting, and flu-like symptoms. According to PM, Marlange’s family “cannot pay for the treatment because they don't have the money." If untreated, Marlange could experience seizures and premature death. For $1,260, Marlange will undergo surgery to drain excess fluid from her brain and prevent further accumulation. Let’s help Marlange live a healthy and happy childhood!

“Huor’s vision began to blur two years ago. Since then, she has had a hard time cooking and caring for her family,” our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, tells us. Meet Huor, a 59-year-old woman from Cambodia. Huor has a mature cataract in her left eye. Fortunately, cataract surgeries are easy, pain-free, and have a high success rate of improving eyesight. With treatment, the clouding in Huor’s vision can be removed completely. "I look forward to helping on the farm again and making and selling handicrafts to earn money to support my family,” Huor tells us. Mongi is an 11-year-old boy living with his parents, grandparents and four siblings in Tanzania. His favorite activity is herding his grandparents’ cattle, but an accident a few years ago has made this difficult. The accident happened while Mongi was with his friend, burning a small pile of cow dung. Mongi was burned severely after being pushed into the fire, and the residual effects of the burns on his left side continue to affect him today. “The anterior burn contracture on Mongi’s left foot prevents him from being able to walk properly. He cannot run fast and he also can’t wear shoes because his toes are pulled up,” describes our medical partner regarding Mongi’s condition. To treat Mongi, physicians at African Mission Healthcare Foundation will perform surgery to release the skin contracture on his left foot. They expect that “after amputation of Mongi’s toe and release of the anterior ankle, Mongi will be able to walk properly and wear shoes.” “I don’t like when people stare at my foot and ask me what happened. I want to be able to walk like the way I used to, wear shoes, and someday start going to school,” Mongi tells us. For $550 we can make these opportunities possible for Mongi.

Meet Ronaldo, a young student from Guatemala who could use your support. "Ronaldo is a really cool 12-year-old boy who was referred to us a few months ago" says Peter Rohloff, the medical director at our partner Wuqu’ Kawoq. "He was born without a left wrist and hand. He's still managed to do well in school, and he can actually get a lot done with just one hand! But he really needs a prosthetic device to make him more functional, more independent, and to improve his self esteem." "Ronaldo's anatomy is pretty difficult, and he'll need a specially molded prosthetic device in order to make sure he has a good fit. He's never been able to access a prosthetic before, because of his family's extreme poverty together with the extreme cost of prosthetic devices."
