Vicent is a peasant farmer from Uganda. Vicent has been having a scrotal swell for the past one year which gives him a lot of discomforts. He has not been able to attend the hospital previously due to lack of money. He came to our facility through a referral and was diagnosed with a hydrocele. Fortunately, on November 12, he will undergo hydrocele repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Upon successful treatment, Vicent will have reduced chances of complications from the swell. However, he does not have the money required for the surgery. Vicent is a peasant farmer together with his wife. He has overtime lost 8 of her 10 children, leaving him with psychological torture. Vicent's income is too little to afford the cost of care. He appeals for financial assistance. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $139 to fund Vicent's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Vicent says, “Am expecting to have a changed life after surgery and continue with cultivation.”

Meet Grace. She's seven-years-old and in the first grade. When Grace was three, she lost her mother when she passed away while giving birth to a second child. Today, Grace is cared for her by her loving father and grandmother. Recently Grace decided to make some tea and burned herself while trying to heat water in a fire. "After starting the fire, she turned around to pick up a pan. That was when her dress caught fire and Grace got severe burns on her legs," doctors at our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF) tell us. "Grace cannot sit because it is so painful to bend her knees, the AMHF team continues. She also cannot walk properly; she drags her feet." Grace's father is doing the best he can to provide care for his daughter but is unable to cover the cost of care that she needs. Clinicians have recommended a skin graft for Grace at this time to prevent any skin contractures and other long-term impacts. The cost of this procedure runs at $780. “I hope to go back to school and later on become a teacher like my father,” says Grace. Let's give her a chance at doing just that by raising money for her care.

Charles is quiet but friendly, and smiles at everyone who greets him! He tells our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, that “playing with big cars is his favorite thing to do. He also enjoys singing and coloring some pictures.” Charles lives with his mother who is a self-employed, single mom. His mother buys and sells second hand clothes and also sells fresh vegetables that she grows in the garden outside of her mud house. Charles was recently diagnosed with bilateral clubfoot. According to his doctors, "Charles was born with congenital deformity of both feet." As a result, Charles' walking was delayed and now "he walks by using the lateral aspect (or outside) of his feet." If his condition goes untreated, "Charles' daily activities will be impaired due to his restricted mobility." Our medical partners share that "Charles' mother has longed to be able to help her son, but due to their difficult financial situation she hasn't been able to do so." For $1,160, we can provide Charles with the surgery he needs to be able to correct his clubfeet. This surgery will allow Charles to walk properly and play like a normal, healthy young boy; additionally, treatment will decrease his risk of developing early osteoarthritis. Charles' mother says, "I hope that the position of my son's feet can be corrected so that he can walk normally. I will try my best to take him to school so that later he can live a better life." Nancy is a 26-year-old mother of two who lives with her husband and children in Kenya. Nancy is a farmer, growing maize, beans, vegetables and sugarcane for personal use. Her husband does contract work that allows him to provide basic necessities for the family. Nancy is pregnant with her third child but is experiencing morning sickness, getting sick from the time she wakes until mid-day. This makes it difficult for her to eat and interrupts her daily activities. For $215, we can give Nancy a safe delivery in a health facility attended to by a skilled clinician. “I always end my day with a positive thought. Even though I know I cannot meet the expenses needed for my treatment, I do hope and pray that things will get better,” says Nancy. With treatment, Nancy will receive better health care services and post-treatment care for both her and the baby. Let’s support Nancy and her family as they welcome a new baby!

David is a one-year-old baby boy living in Kenya with his family. He is the youngest of two children and was born with bilateral undescended testes, which means that his testes cannot be found in his scrotum. If the condition goes untreated, David will be at risk for developing cancer and may be unable to have children. “The possibility of my son developing cancer has been very scary!!! I pray and hope that we’ll get support so that his treatment happens as soon as possible," says David's dad. But the family lives in a single-room rental home and have no land of their own to till. David's dad works as a casual laborer to support the family. The cost of the surgery which David needs, a bilateral orchidopexy, is well out of reach. With $655, we can ensure that baby David stays cancer free and is able to have a family of his own one day. What are we waiting for?

Meet baby Angelica! Angelica is one-year-old and lives with her mother and two siblings in Haiti. Her mother sells clothes in the street and loves her children very much. Born with a cleft lip, Angelica has difficulty eating normally. Often, when her mother tries to feed her, the food comes out of her nostrils and Angelica's mother is scared that she might suffocate. While Angelica’s mother works very hard to support her family, she does not make enough money to cover all of her families needs. For $960, Angelica will receive surgery to repair her cleft lip. After surgery, she will be able to eat normally and have a normal face shape. Let's help fund this surgery for Angelica!

Davidson is a two-year-old little boy whose single father wishes to see him grow up healthy and strong. After being born with a cleft lip and palate, birth defects that occur when a baby’s lip and mouth do not form properly during pregnancy, Davidson had a hard time breastfeeding and taking in liquids because the fluid would pass through the opening in his mouth into his nostrils. Fortunately, Davidson was able to receive surgery to repair his lip, which is often the first half of the full course of treatment for this condition. Now he needs our help to complete the second half of his treatment, fixing his palate! The doctors expect that after this procedure, Davidson will be able to eat normally and live a healthier life. Davidson’s father is excited to see his son well again and is already making plans for the future, like sending him to school. For $960, we can help make sure Davidson has the best chance for these dreams to come true!

Unbeknownst to his family, three-year-old Anibal hasn't been able to see out of his left eye for years due to a type of eye cancer called retinoblastoma. Anibal's mother recently visited Wuqu’ Kawoq, a Watsi medical partner in Guatemala, for a general checkup. While evaluating her, a doctor noticed that there seemed to be something wrong with her son Anibal, who was also in the room. Upon further examination, the doctor discovered that Anibal is going blind because of cancer. Anibal's family is understandably emotional about the diagnosis. They cannot afford the high-quality care Anibal needs to beat this cancer and see again. That's where we come in. For $1500, we can pay for Anibal to receive surgery, most likely to remove his eye. Depending on pathology results, he may need radiation or chemotherapy. Let's show Anibal and his family that we're with them the whole way!

Ricardo has hydrocephalus, a condition that causes excess fluid to build up in the brain causing life-threatening seizures, fever, and brain swelling. Ricardo’s young mother is a cosmetology student who works hard providing beauty services in her community to support her son. "Ricardo is my first child and I don’t want to lose him,” she says. “I feel very grateful to the hospital for their help." With our support of $1,260, doctors at our partner hospital will perform surgery on Ricardo to drain the excess fluid from his brain. This procedure will alleviate Ricardo's symptoms and allow his head to grow into a normal shape.
