Fred is a 61-year-old small-scale farmer from Uganda. He has six children, ranging in age from 17 to 41. He owns a two-room semi-permanent house to shelter his family.
When Fred developed supra umbilical swelling seven years ago, he thought it would disappear on its own, and did not seek medical attention for it. The swelling led to severe pain two days ago, and he was admitted to the general ward at our medical partner's care center, Rushoroza Hospital, for medical treatment. If not treated, he might continue to experience chronic pain, and he is at risk of hernia strangulation, which can be a medical emergency.
Fortunately, on November 29th, Fred will undergo hernia repair surgery and our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $170 to fund Fred's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently.
Fred says, “I hope to get well through surgery because I can no longer carry out my daily activities comfortably. I will continue with my daily activities once given treatment.”
