Young Reuben is ready to take on the world! He and his mother have had a hard start, though. When Reuben was born, he was diagnosed with Down's syndrome. Because of this, his father abandoned Reuben and Gladys, his mother. Now, Gladys is working as a volunteer in a center for children with disabilities and supporting her child through the aid of the center.
Due to his Down's syndrome, Reuben is at risk for a number of other issues. Reuben is currently experiencing one of these - cryptorchidism, or undescended testicle. Having this issue places Reuben at a significantly higher risk for testicular cancer later in life. In order to correct this issue, it is important for Reuben to have a laparoscopic surgery now, while he is young and can easily recover.
Gladys loves her son very much, but cannot afford this surgery alone. She needs our help to raise the $900 that it will cost. Right now, she is "suffer[ing] to think that in the addition to the challenge that he faces everyday, he is at risk of having undetected cancer."
