Rosa is 45 years old and a mother to eight children. She resides in a small village in Kenya called Tapsagoi. Rosa’s husband is a brick mason. He works hard to educate their children, six of whom are still in school.
Six years ago, Rosa noticed a small swelling on her neck. She went to the hospital, and the doctors diagnosed her with a multinodular goiter, or enlarged thyroid gland. She was recommended to undergo surgery. Due to financial limitations, Rosa was not able to raise money for her surgery, so she opted to try herbal treatments. However, they did not have the wanted effect. A friend advised her to visit our medical partner's care center, AIC Kapsowar Hospital, for specialized treatment. Doctors there confirmed the multinodular goiter diagnosis.
Recently, Rosa has felt weak and restless. She was able to raise some money for her surgery and will subsidize $63 of it. In order to help Rosa fund the rest of her medical bill, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $641. Rosa is scheduled to undergo thyroid surgery on July 20.
“I have been in and out of hospitals seeking treatment," Rosa says. "My greatest hope and prayer is to get healed because I am very worried about my health."
