Yoeun is a 77-year-old fruit seller from Cambodia. She has two children, ten grandchildren, and enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio. One month ago, Yoeun developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Yoeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On September 5th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. "I hope that I will be able to see clearly again so I can help my daughter take care of her children."

Yi is a 65-year-old mother of five from Cambodia. She has four grandchildren, and enjoys listening to the radio, watching Thai movies on television, and looking after her grandchildren. One year ago, Yi developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her tearing, blurry vision, and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Yi learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On August 6, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. She says, "I hope that I am able to see clearly and can help take care of my grandchildren."

Michael is a motorcycle taxi operator from Kenya. He is a hardworking and entrepreneurial man. In July, Micheal was involved in an accident with another motorbike. He was brought to the hospital, where it was confirmed that he had sustained a fracture of the left femur. He is not able to walk and is in chronic pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On July 25, Michael will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will help him walk easily again Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $998 to fund this procedure. “I cannot afford the cost of surgery. I will be eternally grateful if you can find a way to help,” Michael says.

Kanika is a fourth grade student from Cambodia. He likes to play games, read books, and watch television. He hopes to become a police officer when he gets older. When he was eight, Kanika had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in his right ear to perforate. For this reason, Kanika experiences hearing loss, pain, irritation, discharge, and tinnitus. He finds it difficult to listen in class and has trouble communicating with others. Kanika traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On August 9, he will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in his right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. He says, "I hope that after my surgery I will be able to hear again and my parents will no longer have to worry about my condition."

Yi is a 68-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She has four children, seven grandchildren, and enjoys going to the pagoda in her free time. Two years ago, Yi developed a pterygium in her left eye, causing her irritation, blurry vision, and tearing. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is exposed to excessive sun damage and the cells grow abnormally over the pupil. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside. When Yi learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. Yi needs a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the cornea surface and replace it with a conjunctival graft to prevent recurrence. The total cost of her procedure is $201. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care for two days. The procedure is scheduled for July 8. She says, "I hope that after my operation, I will be able to see clearly and can return to my work on the rice farm."

Pov is a 31-year-old gas seller from Cambodia. He likes to take care of the children and help out around the house, and in his free time he likes to watch TV and listen to music. Two years ago, Pov fell off his motorcycle and injured his left shoulder. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his left side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He is unable to lift his arm and has to stop working at the rice field. Pov traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On March 18, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he will be able to regain full range of motion in his arm. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $637 to fund this procedure. He says, "I hope that after my surgery I will be able to use my arm again and go back to work."

Maxwell is a baby from Kenya. He is the second of two children. Maxwell has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Maxwell has been experiencing an increasing head circumference. Without treatment, Maxwell will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $685 to cover the cost of surgery for Maxwell that will treat his hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on March 28 and will drain the excess fluid from Maxwell's brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Maxwell will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy.

Somab is a woman from Cambodia. Somab really likes to cook and go for walks with her family in her free time. She developed a curve in her lower spine about two months ago, which is progressing, making it difficult to sit for long periods, and causing a lot of discomfort. Surgery can help correct the position of her spine, and prevent further worsening of the condition. Surgery is scheduled for Mach 13 and will cost $930. She says, "I hope that after my surgery, I am able to go back to work and take care of my family without having any pain or difficulty."

Tumuhairwe is a farmer from Uganda. For two years, Tumuhairwe has been experiencing lower abdominal pain. She has been diagnosed with fibroids. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $208 to fund Tumuhairwe's surgery. On March 12, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Tumuhairwe will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Tumuhairwe says, “I will give thanks to the Lord after surgery because it’s a long story I have gone through.”

Loyford is a young man from Kenya. He is the oldest child in his family. He sells bananas in the coastal town of Mombasa. His younger brother is a student in university. Recently, Loyford was in a road traffic accident. The impact caused fractures on his spine. Loyford was referred to our medical partner's facility for specialized treatment after CT scan imaging. Loyford needs to undergo a spinal fusion and decompression. Surgery is scheduled for January 18 and will cost $1,500. Loyford says, “My prayer is to be treated and resume my work. I want to provide for my brother and mother."

Nyamata is a student from Uganda. She is the third of seven children. Nyamata has an abdominal swelling that is causing her pain and discomfort. She traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On February 13, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Nyamata needs help to raise $196 to fund this procedure. She says, "I enjoy singing during my free time."
