This is Andres, a loving father with three children from Guatemala. He is incredibly proud that all of his children have been able to school. To support his children in school, he builds houses in the area.
Andres was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. He has been having pain and been unable to do much but stay in bed recently. He has not been able to build houses and now that he is no longer able to work, he is completely dependent on his son's income, which is only a few dollars per day. Andres also struggles to receive excellent health care because of his linguistic limitations: he speaks Kiche, a Mayan language, instead of Spanish.
For $1461, Andres can receive life-saving treatment. Watsi's medical partner, Wuqu' Kawoq, can provide the necessary medications, hospital care, chemotherapy, interpretation between Spanish and his native Kiche, and transportation from his rural village to the only public cancer hospital in the country. Quickly treating the malignant cancer will give him the opportunity to overcome it, return to work, and spend time with his family.
Andres shares with us, "It is a great pleasure to construct houses where happy families can live together. I want to keep fighting against cancer and fulfill my dreams--to keep paying for my daughters to go to school and build homes for their future families. I hope to recover, return to my job, and make my dreams a reality." Let's help Andres return to his family in good health.
