Mach is a widow with one daughter, and three sons, and is a loving grandmother to 13 grandchildren. Sadly, her husband passed away due to tetanus several years ago. She lives with her youngest son, a construction worker, in Phnom Penh province. For the last several decades, she earned a small living as a morning glory (water spinach) seller in the market. In her free time, she likes listening to Buddhist prayers on the radio. Two years ago, Mach developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She finds it difficult to take walks outside, so often stays alone in the house. When Mach learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for one and a half hours seeking treatment. On November 1, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. She shared: "I hope I will see better so I can go shopping and go to the pagoda by myself. I don’t want my family to worry about me falling or my eyes getting worse."

Anaya is an infant from Kenya. She has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. Without treatment, Anaya will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $685 to cover the cost of surgery for Anaya that will treat her hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on May 28 and will drain the excess fluid from Anaya's brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve her quality of life. With proper treatment, Anaya will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young girl. “Your help is a miracle," shares Anaya’s mother.

Adyimidyika is a farmer from Malawi. She lives with her husband on their small farm, and she spends her days caring for her home and family. In their free time, they enjoy worshiping at their local church. Since last year, Adyimidyika has been experiencing pain and abnormal bleeding. She has been diagnosed with uterine fibroids. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $650 to fund Adyimidyika's surgery. On June 7, she will undergo gynecological surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and seven nights of hospital stay. Adyimidyika was thrilled to find out her surgery would be funded, and she is looking forward to again being able to care for her family. She says, "Thank you."

Rebecca is a baker and a singer mother of one child. She has two siblings. Rebecca was a healthy woman until three years ago, when she developed chronic ulcer secondary peripheral vascular disease on her right leg. She underwent an amputation, lost her job, and was left struggling to provide for her teenage son and to feed her family. Rebecca eventually managed to start a small bakery business at home. Unfortunately, she recently developed the same condition on her left leg. She can no longer work and needs treatment. Rebecca is scheduled to undergo a left leg amputation on May 15. Now, she needs help raising $1,035 to fund this procedure. Rebecca says, “Thank you for helping me getting this treatment, it has been a difficult life changing journey for me and my son. At some point we had lost hope, but God has made a way through everyone contributing, praying for me and assisting me in one way or the other. I am so grateful.”

Sarin is a rice farmer from Cambodia. He has three daughters, four sons, and fifteen grandchildren. He likes to watch news on the radio and boxing matches. Three years ago, Sarin developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him irritation, photophobia, and blurred vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Sarin learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On June 14, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $211 procedure. He says, "I hope I can see well so I can go outside and recognize my relatives faces again."

Nwet (BB) is a 23-day-old boy from Burma. He lives with his family in a village in Karen State, Burma. When he was born, the nurses noticed a protrusion on back of his skull, a neurological condition called encephalocele. The protrusion is very sensitive. Doctors want Nwet (BB) to undergo a CT scan, a procedure in which x-ray images taken from several angles are combined to produce cross-sectional images of the body. This scan will hopefully help doctors diagnose his condition and formulate an appropriate treatment plan. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $469 to cover the cost of Nwet (BB)'s CT scan and care, scheduled for January 13. “We would like our son to become a doctor when he grows up,” says Nwet Yee, his mother.

Maureen is ten years old and lives in Kenya. She is a student and loves playing with her friends. She lives with her younger sibling and her mother. Her mother is a single parent and works as a farmhand. Maureen fell at school while playing with her friends, which caused her to dislocate her right arm. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where a cast was applied. But since then her condition has deteriorated. Maureen has been going to physiotherapy to help her condition. Finally, she was referred to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation. Once she arrived to receive care, it was determined that she would need corrective surgery to help her arm heal properly. The surgery is scheduled for February 8 and will cost $1,165. However, her mother cannot afford the care and is seeking financial assistance. Maureen's mother says, “I am appealing for help since I can’t afford to pay for the surgery and my daughter is in pain. Kindly help us. God bless you.”

Tina is an eight-year-old from Cambodia. He has one younger brother. He likes to watch cartoons and play with his neighbors. He likes to read and study the Khmer language. He wants to be a doctor when he grows up. Three months ago, Tina developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him blurred vision and photophobia. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Tina's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, they traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On February 6, doctors will perform lensectomy and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, his family needs help to fund this $211 procedure. His mother says, "I am worried that my son's vision is not good and he cannot see well."

Margarita is a mother from Guatemala. She works at home taking care of her family and grandchildren, making food and doing household chores. Margarita also prepares and sells tamales in her community to gain an additional source of income. Margarita needs an endometrial biopsy to determine if she has uterine cancer. Uterine cancer, or endometrial cancer, is a slowly progressive cancer, and it is almost always easily treated simply by removing the uterus. However, access to the necessary studies to make the diagnosis are not readily available in Guatemala. For this reason, many women have been experiencing symptoms for years before they seek care from our medical partner, Wuqu' Kawoq. If Margarita does not receive a biopsy, she will be forced to live with the uncertainty of not knowing whether or not she has cancer. If she does have cancer, it could spread and threaten her life. $383 will provide Margarita with a biopsy to determine if she has cancer or not. The biopsy will also help her medical team prepare a treatment plan. The biopsy is scheduled for January 20 at our medical partner's care center. Margarita says, "Thank you to all of you for this support. I hope that everything turns out well."

Sopham is an eighth grade student from Cambodia. She hopes to become a grade school teacher when she grows up. Sopham has had scoliosis for three years. This condition is progressing, causing discomfort, and making it difficult to sit in school for long periods of time. She needs to undergo a surgery to correct the position of her spine and prevent further worsening of the condition. Fortunately, Sopham visited our medical partner's care center and is scheduled to undergo spinal surgery on January 22. Now, her family needs help raising $1,500 to pay for the procedure. Sopham hopes that this surgery will eliminate her back pain so that she can return to school and spend time with her family. She says, "I am looking forward to returning to school and playing with my friends."

Joy is a baby from Kenya. Joy lives with her mother and maternal grandparents, who are farmers. Joy has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of her condition, Joy has been experiencing an increasing head size. Without treatment, Joy will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $685 to cover the cost of surgery for Joy that will treat her hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on January 17 and will drain the excess fluid from Joy's brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve her quality of life. With proper treatment, Joy will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young girl. Joy’s mother says, “I wish to see my child grow up like a normal child. It is my prayer."

Toem is a grandmother from Cambodia. She has sixteen grandchildren and enjoys spending time at home and listening to the monks pray on the radio. Three years ago, Toem developed a cataract in each eye, causing her vision loss, sensitivity to light, and watery eyes. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Toem learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On December 11, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. "I hope my mother can see again, and see her grandchildren," says her son.
